Steel drums, rhinestone-encrusted costumes and the aroma of Caribbean spices in the air are just some of the delights that await you at Miami Carnival in 2024. One of the biggest celebrations of Caribbean culture on the globe (and the biggest in the U.S.), this multi-day event takes place in both Broward and Miami-Dade county with weekend festivities culminating at the Miami-Dade County Fairgrounds on Sunday, October 13. Thousands are expected to attend, and many bands will perform. Here are key details surrounding the festivities.
About Miami Carnival
It’s hard to imagine an event that’s a better fit for Greater Miami & Miami Beach’s sunny, vibrant vibe. Now in its 39th year, Miami Carnival is inspired by the lively carnival traditions of Brazil and Trinidad, which typically take place ahead of Lent. Here, the festivities take place over Columbus Day Weekend. Expect kaleidoscopic, over-the-top costumes and the happy sound of steel pan rhythms. The festivities begin on September 30 with the Junior Carnival followed by J'Ouvert on October 7 and wrapping up with the Parade of Bands & Concert at the Miami-Dade County Fairgrounds on Sunday, October 8.
Miami Carnival 2024 Parade of Bands & Concert
Sunday, October 13
Sunday is parade day at the Miami-Dade County Fairgrounds, when costumed revelers line up to show off their elaborate garb. The party starts at 11 a.m. and goes on into the night. Participating bands, each with their own theme, will stroll along the parade route, ultimately performing on the main stage in the hope of becoming Band of the Year. And the visual element is no less incredible: A costume competition will bring out the most lavish, rhinestone-encrusted clothing you can imagine. Competitions for best king, queen and individual costumes offer big prizes, so expect to be dazzled. Stroll through the Carnival Village for authentic island eats and handmade arts and crafts. Step up your spectator game with VIP access – options include renting a personal cabana stocked with food and beverages (plus waiter service) as well as access to a raised viewing platform.
