Airport Area

Miami International Airport (MIA) is the hub of a fast-growing area with new hotels and offices marking the corporate and commercial focus around Blue Lagoon Drive to the west - a beautifully landscaped 12.5-acre tropical peninsula surrounded by a 100-acre freshwater lake. MIA is minutes away from several popular Miami neighborhoods, including Coral Gables, Doral and downtown Miami.

Aventura

Coral Gables

Doral

Doral offers world-class parks and cultural activities, dozens of hotels, several college campuses and much more. The World Golf Championships, held annually at the Doral Golf Resort & Spa, are a must-stop on the PGA tour. The resort is home to five championship golf courses, a tennis center and a spa. Everglades Area

The Flamingo Entrance of Everglades National Park is a one-hour drive from Miami. Everglades National Park is the third-largest National Park in the Continental U.S. and the largest subtropical wilderness in the U.S. The Ernest Coe Visitor Center offers maps, books and information on guided boat and walking tours. Other amenities include a full-service marina, boat launching ramps, motor and non motorized boat rentals, and camping facilities.

Fisher Island

This exclusive island is located off the southern tip of Miami Beach, just north of the Port of Miami. Once the winter estate of William K. Vanderbilt, Fisher Island is now a private residential community. Fisher Island Hotel & Resort offers many first-class amenities including a deep-water marina, pristine beaches and swimming pools, championship seaside golf, tennis courts, a world-class spa, and several restaurants and lounges. Guests reach the island via ferry or by boat.

Hialeah/Hialeah Gardens

Predominantly Hispanic, Hialeah residents have assimilated their cultural heritage and traditions into a hard-working, diverse community proud of its ethnicity, as well as its family oriented neighborhoods. By population, Hialeah is the fifth largest city in the State of Florida. Hialeah Park, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is known for its famous race track and equally famous pink flamingos.

Homestead/Florida City Area

South of the city, the rural face of Miami-Dade County is revealed in an exciting blend of modern suburbs, historical villages and bucolic backcountry. Two spectacular national parks, Biscayne National Park and Everglades National Park, offer natural beauty, tranquility and teeming wildlife. Fishing, boating, snorkeling and bird-watching are just a few of the many nature-based activities for which the area is known. Attractions have a distinct character - fun, fascinating and unique.

Kendall Area

Much of what is now Kendall was purchased from the State of Florida in 1883 by the Florida Land and Mortgage Company. It is named after Henry John Broughton Kendall, a director of the company who moved to the area in the 1900s to manage the company's land. Today, Kendall is a bustling Miami suburb with hotels, shopping, dining and entertainment to suit every taste. One of Kendall's landmarks is Dadeland Mall, one of the nation's busiest suburban shopping malls.

Key Biscayne

The secluded island of Key Biscayne, Florida can be reached via the scenic Rickenbacker Causeway, which spans beautiful Biscayne Bay. Located south of Downtown Miami and north of Coconut Grove, Key Biscayne touts miles of golden sand beaches and quaint, quiet neighborhoods. The Crandon Park Tennis Center is home to the Sony Ericsson tournament every March, and Crandon Park Golf Course's intriguing terrain puts it among the top 50 public courses in Florida. Tropical foliage lines the Key Biscayne road to Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Recreation Area, where the beach invites swimming or kayaking and the historic Cape Florida lighthouse is open for tours.

Liberty City

The northwest Miami enclave of Liberty City dates back to the 1930s when people started moving here from Overtown. Today, this vibrant corner of Greater Miami displays its cultural and civic pride with colorful murals of African-American heroes, and its annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day parade.

Little Haiti

The Miami neighborhood known as Little Haiti is the cultural heart for the Haitian Diaspora. The area boasts art galleries, Haitian book and music stores, and the Little Haiti Cultural Center, which hosts dance and theater performances. A bronze statue of General Toussaint L'Ouverture, the father of Haitian independence, stands at Northeast 2nd Avenue and 62nd Street.

Miami Beach

Miami Beach - Art Deco District/South Beach

South Beach, Florida has been called the American Riviera and an Art Deco Playground. Yet there's more than fine white sand to South Beach's fantasyland of exuberant architecture. Miami Design District

The Miami Design District is a neighborhood north of Midtown in Miami, Florida. It is roughly divided by NE 36th Street to the south, NE 43rd Street to the north, NW 1st Avenue to the west and Biscayne Boulevard (US 1) to the east. Miami Design District is home to over 130 art galleries, showrooms, creative services, stores, antiques dealers, eateries and bars. Every 2nd Saturday of each month a community wide Art & Design Night is held from 7-10 p.m.

Miami Lakes

The meticulously planned city of Miami Lakes, Florida is more hometown than metropolis. A traditional Main Street anchors curvy residential streets, tasteful corporate parks and lots of lakes and green spaces. Miami Shores

Developed in the 1920s, the Village of Miami Shores is known for its small town feel and variety of Art Deco and Mediterranean Revival-style homes. Bayfront vistas, quaint churches and wide, tree-lined streets are all part of Miami Shores' charm. Miami Shores is also home to Barry University, a Catholic college founded in 1940.

Miami Springs

Miami Springs was founded by Glenn Curtiss, "The Father of Naval Aviation", and James Bright, during the famous land boom of the 1920s. Many buildings in Miami Springs were built in a style of architecture called Pueblo Revival, inspired by the Pueblo-style structures found primarily in New Mexico. The restored Curtiss Mansion, which belonged to founder Glenn Curtiss, is one of the city's most important landmarks.

Morningside

Morningside, Florida is a single family home neighborhood located north of Downtown Miami. Morningside became Miami's first historic district in 1984. A virtual Who's Who of early architects designed the beautiful homes in mostly Mediterranean Revival-style. Annual home tours highlight Morningside's stunning architecture. Morningside Park is a quiet refuge along beautiful Biscayne Bay.

North Bay Village

North Bay Village is a three-island community situated in northeast Miami-Dade County between the cities of Miami and Miami Beach. The three islands - North Bay Island, Harbor Island and Treasure Island - are linked by the John F. Kennedy (79th Street) Causeway, which extends across Biscayne Bay from Miami to Miami Beach. In addition to being centrally located to Downtown Miami and Miami Beach, beautiful views of Biscayne Bay and a variety of restaurants and shops add to North Bay Village's appeal.

North Miami Area

North Miami is a suburban city located in northeast Miami-Dade County, Florida. The city lies on Biscayne Bay and hosts the Biscayne Bay Campus of Florida International University, and the North Miami campus of Johnson & Wales University. The Museum of Contemporary Art (MoCA) is located in the heart of downtown North Miami. The city is also home to the Oleta River State Park, which is the state's largest urban park.

North Miami Beach Area

Located midway between Miami and Fort Lauderdale and adjacent to the Golden Glades Interchange where I-95, Florida's Turnpike, and the Palmetto Expressway meet, North Miami Beach, Florida is truly at the "Crossroads of South Florida". The central location and easy access has made North Miami Beach one of South Florida's best known regional shopping areas and one of its most popular sites for office users. Parks, beaches, and bays abound, along with a wide assortment of recreational, cultural, and dining opportunities.

Opa-Locka

Bordering both Hialeah and Miami Lakes, Opa-locka holds the distinction of having the largest collection of Moorish Revival architecture in the Western Hemisphere, including a City Hall complete with minarets and elaborately painted domes. The city was conceived in 1926 by aviation pioneer Glenn Curtiss. Opa-locka also has its own airport, which is used today for private planes.

Overtown

Overtown enjoyed a 30-year heyday from the 1920s through the '50s, when luminaries like Count Basie, Ella Fitzgerald, Josephine Baker, Billie Holiday and Nat King Cole came to town. Today, this oldest of Miami's African-American neighborhoods is on the upswing, as revitalization projects have restored such landmark sites as the Lyric Theater, once an important stop on the black vaudeville circuit.

Perrine/Cutler Ridge/Goulds

Perrine started as a railroad camp during the construction of the Florida East Coast Railway extension from Miami to Homestead. Goulds is also a former railroad town, and used to have many packing houses for the produce grown on the farms of South Miami Dade. Cutler Ridge's history began in the 1870's when William C. Cutler visited the area and fell in love with it. All three areas are now thriving suburban communities that preserve the past with attractions such as Cauley Square and the Deering Estate at Cutler.

Pinecrest

Pinecrest is a suburban village in Miami-Dade County. In the 1930s, the area's growth began to evolve around one of the first tourist attractions established in the Miami vicinity - Parrot Jungle and Gardens. Today, the former wildlife attraction has been turned into a community park, Pinecrest Gardens, where concerts, art shows and other special events are held year-round.

South Miami Area

South Miami, which borders the University of Miami's main campus and the cities of Coral Gables and Pinecrest, is known for its leafy residential neighborhoods, numerous parks and vibrant Downtown filled with historic buildings, restaurants and unique shops. The town center area east of U.S. Highway 1 (South Dixie Highway) is a vibrant shopping, dining and entertainment venue with a hometown ambiance.

Southwest Miami-Dade

South Miami-Dade County enjoys one of the world's most unique habitats. Two spectacular national parks offer natural beauty, tranquility and teeming wildlife. The Everglades and surrounding parks contain acres and acres of majestic natural trails as well as full-service marinas and campsites. Fishing, boating, snorkeling and bird-watching are just a few of the many nature-based activities for which the area is known. Attractions have a distinct character - fun, fascinating and unique.

Sunny Isles Beach

The atmosphere in Sunny Isles Beach, Florida is still casual but the funky 50's motels and small beachfront hotels are giving way to luxury apartment towers and hotels. Little has changed on the Newport Fishing Pier, where you can drop a line and fish from shore or for real deep-sea fishing, or head to the charter boats docked on the Intracoastal Waterway at Haulover Beach Park. Across the way, a one-mile stretch of white sand and open ocean surf invites sunbathing and swimming.

Surfside

One of the attractions of quiet family-oriented Surfside, Florida is the wide, secluded beach bordered by a path through the dunes. Rejuvenated hotels and new luxury condominiums in Surfside are changing the style of Collins Avenue, but Harding Avenue retains the feel of an old-style main street. Small bistros welcome strollers for a casual meal. Just south of Surfside, Florida, the North Shore State Recreation Area offers an unspoiled beachfront nature preserve and picnic area.

Sweetwater Area

The history of Sweetwater began during the Florida land boom of the 1920's when the Miami-Pittsburgh Land Company purchased acreage and laid out the original plat of "Sweetwater Groves." Thanks to the establishment of Florida International University, the construction of the two major expressways to the north and west, and the discovery of Sweetwater by Dade County's Hispanic community, Sweetwater has grown into a bustling Miami community.

Westchester Area

This quiet community in southwest part of Greater Miami has one of the city's largest parks, Tropical Park, a 275-acre green space with fields for softball, soccer and football as well as places to play basketball, volleyball and tennis. Joggers and cyclists use the miles of paved pathways circulating through park. Westchester is also home to Florida International University's South Campus, which also borders neighboring Sweetwater.

Wynwood Area

Wynwood is a neighborhood in the City of Miami located north of downtown and roughly bounded by NW 36th Street (north), NW 20th Street (south), I-95 (west) and NE 1st Avenue (east). Wynwood's main attraction is that of a trendy arts hub. The Wynwood Arts District contains over 70 galleries, museums and collections. Gallery nights are held monthly, and the area is bustling during many of the annual art fairs held in Miami.
