Miami Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival

In a city known for colorful events, the Miami Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival makes a real splash. Every year, the Miami Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival promotes the ancient Chinese sport of dragon boat racing with a day-long celebration in one of Miami's most scenic areas. Dozens of Hong Kong-style dragon boats race across 250- and 500-meter courses set up for the Miami Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival. Each of the dragon boats competing in the Miami Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival is 40-feet long and four-feet wide and weighs about 500 pounds. Crews consist of 22 people: 20 paddlers, one drummer and one steerperson for each dragon boat. No previous experience is required to join a dragon boat team participating in the Miami Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival.

Approximately 25,000 spectators attend the Miami Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival every year.
