Every Memorial Day Week, tens of thousands of hip-hop lovers head to Miami Beach for a week of parties, concerts and beach-going for the unofficial start of the summer season. Visitors flock to Miami Beach, whip out their best bikinis and beachwear and celebrate with celeb-filled parties, club night and concerts.

Urban Beach Week, formerly known as Hip Hop Weekend, has always drawn a mix of Miami-locals, out-of-towners and hip hop heavyweights like P Diddy, T.I., Lil’ Wayne, Rick Ross, Young Jeezy, Busta Rhymes, the Miami Heat’s DJ Irie and more. Clubs all around Miami Beach pack the week with lavish and over-the-top parties that range from ultra-exclusive to accessible to everyone. There’s no official site for Urban Beach Week, it’s just an informal series of parties that take over the Miami Beach area 24 hours a day for a week.

Get out your most fabulous wardrobe pieces; this is a week where every everyone pulls out all the stops. The finest champagne is poured, the coolest DJs on the scene are flown in and the pool parties get really wild.

The Best of The Best International Music Festival at Bayfront Park in Downtown Miami, the same venue as the world-famous ULTRA Music Festival, is one of the biggest draws of Urban Beach Week. Hip hop and reggae come together in a ten-hour outdoor concert that gets everyone dancing and singing along. Past performers include Shaggy, T-Pain, Nicki Minaj, Funk Master Flex, Fat Joe, Stephen and Damien Marley, Akon and more. Best of the Best is one of the biggest hip hop, reggae, R&B, Soca and Caribbean music festivals in the world. Past years have drawn as many as 25,000 participants.

Miami Beach’s best clubs, well-known as some of the best in the world, are open until the wee hours of the morning and are all booked with talent to celebrate Urban Beach Week. Get to know some new rappers or find some of your favorites, there are parties for all interests and hip hop styles at clubs and venues around the area. Some clubs have dress codes, and in others, it’s anything goes. Check online or ask your promoter if there’s anything you should know in advance.

Know Before You Go


Book accommodations in advance, especially if you want to be close to clubs and venues that you already know you have an interest in. Parking is tough during this busy weekend, so if you have a car with you, check in advance that your hotel has a place where you can park your car and be sure to ask about during your stay.

Leave time for the beach. It’s a hot time of the year in Miami. Take a dip to cool down and drink a lot of water to stay hydrated.

Research the shows, parties and concerts that you want to attend and buy tickets if they’re available ahead of time. As the event gets closer Facebook pages and websites will be updated with details about ticketing. Buy your tickets in advance and guarantee that you and your party will have a place to party. Be sure to ask promoters about group rates if you’re traveling with a big group.
