Florida Grand Opera
Founded by the Opera Guild of Greater Miami and Dr. Arturo de Filippi in 1941, the Florida Grand Opera is the seventh-oldest opera company in the nation. With over 60 successful completed seasons, the Florida Grand Opera continues to be the premier opera house of southern Florida. Currently housed in The Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County, the Opera presents its breathtaking performances in the Sanford and Dolores Ziff Ballet Opera House as well as The Broward Center for the Performing Arts. Previous performances include Anna Karenina and Balseros. In fact, Luciano Pavarotti made his American debut in the Florida Grand Opera’s production of Lucia di Lammermoor.
The mission of the Florida Grand Opera is its commitment to properly training rising opera stars while embracing the unique cultural history of South Florida’s surrounding communities. Education programs such as the School Dress Rehearsal Program expose many children to the many different aspects of the world of opera. Renowned by many, the artist training program aides talented young singers by providing useful skills helpful to build successful careers in the professional world of opera.
