King Mango Strut

2009 Dates Coming Soon!

In spite of its unlikely beginnings, the King Mango Strut parade has grown into one of Greater Miamis wackiest and most fun-filled celebrations. For more than a quarter of a century, the King Mango Strut has satirized and parodied current events and people in the news. Past King Mango Struts have featured appearances by the likes of The Million Chad March, The League of Dead Voters, Osama Piata, Weapons of Mass Distraction, Cuban Eye for the Gringo Guy and The Booger King.

The popular Coconut Grove parade traces its beginnings to the early 1980s when its co-founders attempted to enter the Orange Bowl Parade as the Merry Mango Marching Band, but were rejected. Rather than succumb to self-pity, the pair started their own parade, the King Mango Strut, and the rest is history.

In 2006, the King Mango Strut celebrated its 25th anniversary. For the first and perhaps the only time, the coveted spot of parade grand marshal was auctioned off on eBay. A Miami Beach business owned clinched top honors with a winning bid of $5,600. Highlights of the 2006 King Mango Strut also included an appearance by the Mango Tabernacle Choir. Theme of the King Mango Strut 25th anniversary parade was Still Crazy After All These Years. Pre-Strut activities included the Little Miss Mango Pageant for children, an event in which every entrant was expected to be a winner.

King Mango Strut Location
The King Mango Strut is held in downtown Coconut Grove. The parade route runs along Main Highway (at Commodore Plaza), turns on Grand Avenue and finishes on Commodore Plaza.
