About Trump National Doral Miami

Just over 50 years ago, the land that today is a beautiful developed golf and spa haven was 2,400 acres of Florida swampland. In 1959, husband and wife Doris and Alfred Kaskel invested in this wild territory and created a country club for their friends and family to visit and enjoy the sunny Miami weather. They named the club after themselves, “Dor – Al,” which is a combination of their first names.

By 1962 they had a full-fledged country club up and running with three golf courses. They gained additional credibility when they brought the famous tennis legend Arthur Ashe onboard as tennis director in 1970. Years later, in 1987, they added the spa wing and solidified the Doral complex, known as Doral Golf Resort & Spa, as one of the best country clubs and spa destinations in the nation.

Golf has always been integral to the property; the much-buzzed-about spa consistently lands in best spa lists in magazines and travel guides and the golf courses are equally unrivaled. Florida’s very first PGA event was held way back in 1962 when golfers were first welcomed to the new Clubhouse, Blue, Red and Par3 courses. In the half-century the club has been open, many famous people from professional golfers to entertainment big-wigs; a few of those names include Tiger Woods, Joe DiMaggio, Joe Namath and Jackie Gleason.

Golfers who play the courses today will benefit from a 2012 renovation for the 50 year anniversary of the Resort. This $100 million project included a new golf course, a $5 million spa renovation, a new bar, Bossa Nova and a new restaurant, Mesazul, and further enhancements to The Great White and Gold Golf Courses upgraded with TifEagle greens.

The Resort has passed hands into the management of the TRUMP HOTEL COLLECTION and in August of 2013 it was renamed Trump National Doral Miami. The management company plans to invest into keeping the golf and spa experience top quality.

Today, the whole area of Doral, a blend of residential, industrial, business and leisure, revolves around Trump National Doral Miami.

Five Championship Courses

The Blue Monster is an infamously difficult course. Gil Hanse, a renowned golf course architect, is currently redesigning the Blue Monster; it’s the yearly host of the World Golf Championships-Cadillac Championship. The first two holes let you ease into the course, but the challenge hits hard on the third hole, known to be the most difficult driving hole on the course. There’s a lake on the right and a fairway bunker on the left, plus a sharp slope on the left of the green. It doesn’t get easier on the fourth hole. It’s the hardest par 3 on the course. As the course draws on you’ll be challenged by long par 5s, dramatically narrow greens, palm tree obstacles, elevated greens and more.

The new renovation will bring on an increasingly challenging new design for an evolving golf game of high-tech equipment making courses that were challenging in the 60’s less so for today’s players. Donald Trump has promised to “blow up” the course and renovate it from a low scoring course to its tougher glory days.

The Blue Monster, The Jim McLean Signature Course and The Gold Course are the premier courses at Trump National Doral Miami.
