Home of the Miami HEAT and a wide variety of internationally renowned entertainment acts, AmericanAirlines Arena is an iconic fixture located on the Downtown Miami waterfront.
Situated on bustling Biscayne Boulevard, the arena is located in the heart of a thriving metropolis and easily accessible by surrounding neighborhoods like Brickell, Wynwood, the Design District, South Beach and Coconut Grove. The busy urban area has plenty of restaurants, bars, hotels and other cultural venues.
Miami HEAT Games
Formed in 1988, the Miami HEAT have won three league championships (2006, 2012 and 2013), five conference titles and 11 division titles. Catch a HEAT game and watch superstar NBA basketball players duke it out on the court at 40 regular season home games per year. The season runs from November through April and playoffs usually last until June.
Entertainment and Events
AmericanAirlines Arena is a 19,600 seat venue that opened on New Year’s Eve 1999 and quickly amassed an impressive roster of the biggest and best names in show business including Gloria Estefan (who gave the first performance in the space), Madonna, Cher, Luis Miguel, the Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Sade, Lady Gaga, Usher, Shakira, Paul McCarney, Black Eyed Peas, Jay Z, Alicia Keys and many more. Check in advance of your trip to see if there’s something going on that you don’t want to miss. Ticket prices vary depending on the show and often sell out fast.
Getting to the Arena
Many visitors to AmericanAirlines Arena opt for public transportation to avoid traffic and parking. The MetroRail ($2.25 per person), MetroMover (free) and MetroBus (fare varies depending on route) are just a short walk from the entrance. While the MetroRail and MetroMover usually stop service at midnight, the schedule is often extended until 1 a.m. for special events at the arena.
If you’re traveling by MetroRail or MetroMover, follow these directions:
• Take the MetroRail to Government Center Station
• Transfer to MetroMover’s Omni Loop
• Disembark at Park West Station
• Walk East to Biscayne Boulevard
• Cross intersection of Biscayne Blvd. and Port Blvd. to the Arena
If you arrive by taxi or other car sharing service, the drop-off point is located at Gate 3 on NE 8 Street on the north side of the arena, next to the box office windows.

More About the Arena
AmericanArilnes Arena is a LEED-certified structure and is among the world’s greenest and most energy efficient buildings. There’s a three-story LED screen on the front of the arena that serves as a digital media board is also energy efficient. The screen showcases advertisements for upcoming events and is visible to the more than 3.8 million cruisers per year at PortMiami and the thousands of passersby each day on Biscayne Boulevard.
