All you Need to Know About Miami's American Airlines Arena

AmericanAirlines Arena, home of the Miami HEAT and a wide variety of internationally renowned entertainment acts, is an iconic fixture located on the Downtown Miami waterfront. Situated on bustling Biscayne Boulevard, the arena is located in the heart of the thriving Miami metropolis and easily accessible by surrounding neighborhoods like Downtown Miami, Wynwood, the Design District, South Beach and Coconut Grove. This busy Downtown area also has plenty of restaurants, bars, hotels and other cultural venues for you to enjoy both before and after your arena event.

This modern mega-center is a LEED-certified structure and is among the world’s greenest and most energy efficient buildings. There’s a three-story LED screen on the front of the arena that serves as a digital media board which is also energy efficient. The screen showcases advertisements for upcoming events and is visible to the more than 3.8 million cruisers per year at PortMiami and the thousands of passersby each day on Biscayne Boulevard.

Miami HEAT Games: Nothing but Net

Formed in 1988, the Miami HEAT have won three NBA championships (2006, 2012 and 2013), five conference titles and 12 division titles. Catch a HEAT game and watch superstar NBA basketball players duke it out on the court at 40 regular season home games per year. The season runs from November through April and playoffs usually last until June.

Concerts to Comics and All Entertainment in Between

This 19,600-seat concert and event arena opened on New Year’s Eve 1999 and quickly amassed an impressive roster of the biggest and best names in music and entertainment. Some of those incredible superstars have been Gloria Estefan (who gave the first performance in the space), Madonna, Cher, Luis Miguel, the Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Sade, Lady Gaga, Usher, Shakira, Paul McCartney, Black Eyed Peas, Jay Z, Alicia Keys and many more.

Some of the most anticipated upcoming events are Elton John’s Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour, the MiamiBash with Daddy Yankee, Pitbull, Jacob Forever and the live comedy of Kevin Hart. They also have a variety of family-friendly entertainment offerings for those visitors traveling with young kids, such as the must-see Disney on Ice. Check in advance of your trip to Miami to see if there’s something going on that you don’t want to miss. Ticket prices vary depending on the show and often sell out fast.

How to Get to Miami’s AmericanAirlines Arena

Many visitors to AmericanAirlines Arena opt for public transportation to avoid traffic and parking. The MetroRail ($2.25 per person), MetroMover (free) and MetroBus (fare varies depending on route) are just a short walk from the entrance. While the MetroRail and MetroMover usually stop service at 11:00 p.m. to midnight, the schedule is often extended until 1:00 a.m. for special events at the arena.

If you’re traveling by MetroRail or MetroMover, follow these directions:

  • Take the MetroRail to Government Center Station
  • Transfer to MetroMover’s Omni Loop
  • Disembark at Park West Station
  • Walk East to Biscayne Boulevard
  • Cross intersection of Biscayne Blvd. and Port Blvd. to the Arena

If you arrive by taxi or other car sharing service, the drop-off point is located at Gate 3 on NE 8 Street on the north side of the arena, next to the box office windows.
