Perrine / Cutler Bay

History Abounds

This former railroad town is today a thriving suburban area.

Perrine started as a railroad camp during the construction of the Florida East Coast Railway extension from Miami to Homestead. Goulds is also a former railroad town, and used to have many packing houses for the produce grown on the farms of South Miami Dade. Cutler Ridge's history began in the 1870's when William C. Cutler visited the area and fell in love with it.

All three areas are now thriving suburban communities that preserve the past with attractions such as Cauley Square and the Deering Estate at Cutler. Historic tours are conducted daily at Deering Estate and there are eco-adventure trips like canoeing available as well. The largest shopping mall in the area is Southland Mall.
