Sony Ericsson Open

The Sony Ericsson Open…the world’s fifth largest tennis tournament…promises Miami audiences 12 days of world-class tennis every spring. With prize money totaling nearly $7 million, the Sony Ericsson Open attracts the brightest stars of the tennis world. Past winners of the Sony Ericsson Open tennis tournament include Serena and Venus Williams, Steffi Graff, Roger Federer, Andy Roddick, Andre Agassi and Pete Sampras.

The Sony Ericsson Open combines ATP Masters Series play with the Sony Ericsson WTA TOUR. The annual Miami tennis tournament features 96 men and 96 women competing in singles, with 32 teams a piece vying for men’s and women’s doubles titles.

The Sony Ericsson Open tennis tournament dates back to 1985. Formerly known as the NASDAQ-100, the Sony Ericsson Open assumed its current name in 2007, the year Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications became the title sponsor.
