    The Goombay Festival is being held in July in the Coconut Grove neighborhood, a community with Bahamian roots.The festival will feature Bahamian entertainers and Junkanoo parade performers showcasing their heritage with intricate costumes and rhythmic music that features cowbells, goat-skin drums and brass instruments.

    Bahamian dishes and workshops on the history of Junkanoo parades in the Caribbean islands also are highlights of the festival. In the Bahamas, Junkanoo parades are held in December and in the summer.

    Emanuelee "Outspoken" Bean, the nationally-respected performance poet, playwright and educator, returns to Miami for a 2nd year for a week-long WordSpeak residency. WordSpeak includes workshops, slams and performances. Houston-based Bean is a Texas Poet Laureate nominee and ranked 9th in the Individual World Poetry Slam in 2013. After last year's residency, he returned to Miami to coach Tigertail's WordSpeak team and accompanied them to Washington, D.C. for their participation in the annual Brave New Voices teen spoken word competition in July.
