The Salty Donut in Wynwood was one of Miami's first artisanal doughnut shops
Happy Place Donuts
The man behind mega-clubs LIV and Story is teaming up with the founder of Sugar Factory American Brasserie to open the hottest new doughnut shop on beautiful Miami Beach, Happy Place Donuts. This huge 4,000-square-foot eatery will be serving “Happy Dough Balls” inspired by Italian street fare, rainbow doughnuts and sweet and savory pop tarts. To one up the competition, they will also be serving a specialty line of mojitos that are made to match each doughnut flavor. This much anticipated fried dough factory is expected to open on Miami Beach's Española Way this spring, where it will share space with Sugar Factory's upcoming Gummy World. 507 Espanola Way, Miami Beach
Krispy Kreme has been a Miami staple for decades and their traditional glazed doughnut never disappoints. Recently this donut giant has added multiple new flavors to compete with the hot, new donut shops popping up all over the country. They have partnered with your favorite cookie brands to create instant hits like the Chips Ahoy Cookie Doughnut as well as the new Nutter Butter Twist. For more cookie flavored fun, try their Oreo and Kreme doughnut or just go straight for another dessert favorite with the Cake Batter donut. Many locations around Miami
The Salty Donut
One of the first artisanal doughnut shops started in Wynwood. The Salty Donut is pretty much the most popular among the cool kids. As hipster as this place is, you will need to stop by or miss out on their delicious maple bacon donut featuring two other Wynwood favorites: the J Wakefield Brewery’s UJP Porter and bacon cracklings from Miami Smokers. You also won’t want to leave without trying the key lime pie, or the rich and delicious PB&C filled with whipped peanut butter and caramel filling and topped with whipped dark chocolate ganache and homemade peanut and caramel corn. With lines out the door on weekends, come early and come hungry as these doughnuts are huge. 50 N.W. 23rd St. Miami
Little Havana once again can call itself home to the classically perfect Velvet Crème Donuts, a Miami icon that first opened its doors in 1947. Velvet Crème Donuts was a staple for over five decades before it temporarily closed. Never fear, however, as this celebrated Miami-based donut company is back in business on Calle Ocho, so make sure to stop by before you take to the dance floor at Ball & Chain down the street. It’ll give you all the energy you need for those sexy salsa moves. 1555 S.W. Eighth St. Miami
South Miami is home to one seriously mouthwatering donut shop, Honeybee Doughnuts. If you have never had a dulce de leche and guava with cream cheese donut, this is the place to go. If you want something a little more savory, try the chocolate salted pretzel and sea salt caramel donut. Owner Karen Muirhead’s innovative use of ingredients and blends has created popular varieties like the raspberry coulis donut and the gluten-free "beehive" made with Greek yogurt. This shop may be small but it is big on flavors. You’ll want to pick up a pack of minis and try as many of the tasty treats as you dare – all are very instagrammable. 7388 Red Road Miami
Mojo Donuts & Fried Chicken
Hot in the donut scene is Mojo Donuts & Fried Chicken. Right now, we will stick to dishing on the donuts side of things and suggest you try the Death by Chocolate that will fill your chocolate fix for days to come. There is also the Oreo Speedwagon – ask your dad about the name - topped with crunchy Oreo bits you will not get enough of. Some of the other choices are unique flavor combos like salted caramel cheesecake, passion fruit meringue, and fruity pebbles. 8870 S.W. 40th St. Miami
Hidden in a plaza on Bird Road is a cute little donut shop that goes by the name of Maxi Donas. They have a lot of the standard artisan donut staple flavors like the bacon, Nutella and Oreo. The Nutella is a must try, as you will seriously fall in love with the decadent hazelnut flavored filling. They also have mini donuts that are prepackaged and cake-sized donuts that are just perfect for birthdays. 12847 SW 42nd St. Miami
