Here are hot restaurants you must try before summer’s over during Miami’s sizzling Miami Spice special. Kicking off August 1 through September 30, Miami Spice is the perfect opportunity to dine at the best restaurants in Miami for a fraction of the price. Participating restaurants feature three-course menus at reduced prices: lunch $23 and dinner $39.
It’s easy to search for restaurants based on location. Here are a few hotspots worth trying on Miami’s Mainland, from Wynwood down to Homestead.
Alter - Wynwood
After a celebrated run as chef de cuisine at J&G Grill at the St. Regis Bal Harbour, Bradley Kilgore set off to open Alter restaurant in a small, industrial space in Wynwood. Highlights range from the local fish tartare to summer squash with lemon curd, tarragon, citron vinaigrette, soft feta and puffed wild rice. Heartier dishes include a slow braised brisket with parsley cream corn and miso swordfish with bacon avocado dashi and shrimp gyoza. 223 NW 23rd St., Miami, FL 33127
Beaker & Gray - Wynwood
Everyone’s buzzing about new Wywnood eatery Beaker & Gray in an airy space on North Miami Avenue. Serving a creative menu divided by portion size, you can mix and match your selections depending on your appetite. Some highlights include the crispy shrimp and chorizo “churros” (more like, croquetas), wagyu skirt steak with chimichurri and cauliflower prepared with bacon, queso fresco and yuzu. Via Verde Cucina Rustica – MiMo District
It’s no wonder why Miami’s top pro athletes flock to Via Verde Cucina Rustica to score heaping plates of Italian cusine in Miami’s MiMo historic district. Twin chefs Nicola Carro and Fabrizio Carro, along with partner Cristiano Vezzoli, serve up authentic and traditional Italian favorites combined with inventive new dishes that are sure to fill you up on the spot. And the wine list is quite impressive. PB Station - Downtown
Inside downtown’s newly opened Langford Hotel, beloved local restaurant group Pubbelly Boys have opened PB Station. Designed to resemble an Old World train station with black and white subway tiles, high arcades and clocks representing time zones of various US cities, the place exudes a 1920s glamour rarely seen in Miami. The menu is decked out with sumptuous dishes like the heirloom radish and burratta salad, French onion soup dumplings and the PB burger. After your meal, head to their rooftop bar Pawnbroker for a craft cocktail with views of Miami’s skyline. 121 S 1st St., Miami, FL 33131.
Zuma – Downtown
A perennial hotspot since opening its doors, Zuma has been graced by everyone from Beyonce to David Beckham. This stylish Japanese stunner inside the EPIC Hotel is a London transplant serving the freshest and most crave-worthy sushi in town. It’s prime for power lunches, sexy drinks at the bar or romantic dinners overlooking the Miami River. It’s also popular for its weekend Champagne brunch, which features a lavish buffet, made-to-order entrees and a dessert spread fit for a king. 270 Biscayne Blvd. Way, Miami, FL 33131
Coya Miami – Brickell
This high-end stunner in Brickell by the owners of Zuma has gained a lot of buzz catering to a fashionable post-work crowd. At Coya, expect fresh flavors inspired by Peruvian cuisine with a Latin twist. Kick start your meal with a visit to the Pisco Bar, which offers a variety of infused piscos, made in-house using a range of natural fruits, spices and herbs. Chef Sanjay Dwivedi offers dishes like pescado local clasico with trigger fish, red onions, sweet potato and white corn. Dig into a refined twist on traditional Peruvian dishes, like mouth-watering ceviches, tiraditos (sashimi-style raw fish), causas (creamy mashed potatoes), and anticuchos (marinated skewers, ranging from chicken to beef). 999 Brickell Ave., Miami, FL 33131
Komodo – Brickell
A destination for contemporary Southeast Asian cuisine by David Grutman, the man who keeps LIV and Story nightclubs packed with Hollywood’s A-listers, Komodo is Brickell’s newest dining hotspot. Recently graced by Kim and Kanye with a full entourage, it’s also popular amongst the model and DJ set of Miami. Menu highlights include Peking duck, lobster dynamite rolls with crispy quinoa and the namesake Komodo roll with wild mushrooms, white soy, tempura enoki and truffle oil. 801 Brickell Ave., Miami, FL 33131.
RedLander Restaurant at Schnebly Winery – Homestead
Chef Dewey LoSasso teamed up with Peter Schnebly, the longtime proprietor of Schnebly Redlands Winery, to create the RedLander, a farm-to-farm restaurant at his visionary tropical fruit winery. The menu captures the true essence of Florida, highlighting the tropical fruits, vegetables and produce found in abundance here. From spicy guava chicken wings to a chopped kale salad made with local Bee Heaven tomatoes and mulberries, LoSasso is the perfect man for the job. For something heartier, sandwiches and pasta take center stage, like the pressed chorizo, prosciutto and queso fresco sandwich or the seafood penne made with shrimp, mahi, arugula and tomato-lychee sauce. 30205 SW 217th Ave., Homestead, FL 33030
