BHI Director

The Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau is seeking a dynamic director with demonstrated leadership and management skills to successfully oversee the Black Hospitality Initiatives mission under the supervision of the BHI Board of Officers and the VP, Multicultural Tourism & Development Department.

Job Summary

The Black Hospitality Initiative, Inc. (BHI) is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization whose mission is to increase the economic participation of the local African American community in the Greater Miami and Miami Beach Visitor Industry. Through scholarships and supporting programs the Director will work closely with the BHI Board of Directors to provide direction and oversee maintenance of current BHI programs; coordinate and manage the implementation of all future BHI programs and initiatives; work with BHI Officers to develop consensus on strategic planning related to focusing BHI attention on highest priority and resources needed to meet the goals and objectives outlined in the mission statement. The Director will actively identify fund raising opportunities during the fiscal year.

Director Job Responsibilities

  • Staff liaison to current and future BHI Board of Directors.
  • Develops programs in support of the mission including scholarships, apprenticeships, mentorships, job recruitment, retention, job placement career development and support procurement programs.
  • Develops and manages all BHI budgets, work plan and personnel.
  • Builds effective communal relationships with key constituents and appropriate public and private organizations particularly in the areas of education, foundations or other funding sources, social service and visitor industry.
  • Provides staff leadership in ongoing management of BHI African American Scholarship Program and supporting programs and activities.
  • Promote the BHI to attract and recruit scholarship applicants.
  • Provides staff leadership in managing the stakeholder of fund distribution and accountability.
  • Analyzes and interprets social trends affecting the goals and mission of BHI and drafts policy and priority recommendations.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with Greater Miami and Miami Beach Visitor Industry leaders, Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau staff at all levels, as well as city leaders and the general public as well as key civic and government stakeholders.
  • Oversees the development and execution of grants and ensures grant deliverables are met in accordance with the grant requirements when applicable.
  • Direct liaison with participating high schools, colleges and universities participating in the Black Hospitality Initiative.

Director Qualifications/Skills

  • Success in this position requires strong organizational and governance interpersonal skills.
  • Graduate degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Community Planning, or Bachelor’s degree with a minimum two years’ experience combined.
  • Minimum two years management experience in the Hospitality Industry and/or proven track record of related program management experience in foundation or non-profit management.
  • Excellent recruitment and internship career development.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Knowledge of administrative practices, methods, and procedures relating to administrative support areas.
  • Skill in organizing and prioritizing projects.
  • Skill in presenting to large and small groups of key stakeholders.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills including grant writing.
  • Supervisory management experience.
  • Decision making & time management.

Finance/Budgetary Obligations

Assist in the development of a fiscally sound departmental budget.


Occasional travel may be required.
