Pinecrest Gardens

Surrounded by the Village of Pinecrest's densely canopied suburbs, Pinecrest Gardens comprises approximately 14 acres of lush botanical gardens, family-friendly attractions, and ample parking facilities.

Visit a slice of South Florida History

Set on what was once the site of Parrot Jungle, the park has successfully endeavored to preserve the grounds' historical landscaping and remaining structures. As a testament of its historical preservation efforts, in 2011, Pinecrest Garden's site was designated a historical landmark by the Department of Interior and listed in the National Registry of Historic Places as the Parrot Jungle Historic District. Today, in addition to its expanded botanical gardens and all ages attractions, Pinecrest Gardens (aka South Florida Cultural Arts Center) plays host to a diverse array of year-round cultural/community events, festivals, and private events.

Natural Features

Showcasing the area's natural features, the park's gardens and forested areas boast a native cypress slough, tropical hardwood hammock, riverine landscapes, various specialty gardens (including a desert garden), and over 1000 varieties of tropical - native and nonnative - flora. Among its notable natural features, of which there are many, are remnants of the Snapper Creek streambed, a 30,000-year-old solution hole, a piece of cypress hammock that was once connected to Big Cypress National Preserve, a 100-year-old Cocoplum and various other mature landmark trees.

For visitors wanting to connect and interact with nature, the park features tranquil paths that wind through the botanical garden, a meadowed lake viewing area - Swan Lake - with its resident wildlife, and fish populated waterways where feeding is allowed.

Event Venues

Time your visit to catch performances at the park's acclaimed Banyan Bowl - a 530 seat, open air, geodesic domed amphitheater. The Banyan Bowl hosts an array of music, dance, and theater acts from Jazz Series to Classical/Pop, to ballet, flamenco, Broadway musicals, opera and more. Prefer to catch a flick over live performance? Garden Cinema features Family Movie Night film screenings which are held 3-5 times during the season - October thru April. Check the park's website Calendar for dates and time.

Tip: Don't miss the Garden Cinema's annual pre-Halloween screening of Rocky Horror Picture Show - costumes and audience participation encouraged. Smaller events are hosted at the park's other venue options which include its Hammock Pavilion, Pergola/Lakeview Terrace, Meadow area and Patio.

Kidcentric Attractions

For the younger set, there's a variety of attractions that provide entertainment for all tastes and abilities. Kids can choose from the Splash N' Play water playground, petting zoo, giant outdoor chess/checkers games, large playground area, and children's/family movie screenings.

Near the playground and petting zoo, the park's new Sensory Garden educational area is designed to engage children of all abilities. Among its features are a butterfly garden, a raised vegetable/herb garden area, watering cans, drop in garden programs, and Investigation Station.
