Local Miami artist Jacqueline Gopie, introduces her latest collection, "Freedom to Play" at The Copper Door B&B, in Historic Overtown.

The Copper Door will be hosting a reservation only Meet & Greet with artist, Jacqueline Gopie along with refreshments. Painter Jacqueline Gopie was born in Kingston, Jamaica and now lives and works in Coral Gables, Florida. After a 22-year career in the United States Army, she began painting in 2002 when she attended the University of Miami where she earned her BFA in 2005 and MFA in 2012.

Focusing on idyllic scenes of black and brown children enjoying seaside leisure and playtime she subversively challenges negative media stereotypes of people of color. Her intent is to rewire the viewer’s learned negative physiological response to racial differences by introducing and insisting upon alternative positive contexts, narratives and visual imagery.
