AMAL by Combat Hippies

March 29 - 30, 2019

AMAL is a spoken word theater piece that draws inciteful parallels between war veterans and its refugees. This thought-provoking theater delves into the impact of war for both combatants and noncombatants as people of color, and shares experiences of veterans' adjustment to life after war, as well as those of refugees and asylum seekers from war-torn countries.

It also explores the search for meaning, purpose, and identity through those enlisting in the military, specifically focusing on Puerto Rico's cultural and military heritage.

Direction and Dramaturgy by award-winning theater artist Teo Castellanos.
