Celebrate Miami's Hispanic LGBTQ community during Presidents' Day weekend at Gay8 Festival.

Don’t miss Gay8 (pronounced “Gay Ocho”), the nation’s largest Hispanic LGBTQ festival taking place in Little Havana on the Sunday of President’s Day weekend. Calle Ocho (SW 8th Street) rolls out the rainbow carpet with a full line up of events.

On Sunday, February 17, 2019, for the fourth year in a row, the Gay8 Festival will shut down and take over Calle Ocho. There are various activities planned throughout the weekend. From activism to art, dance, and even a film festival, Gay8 weekend has something for locals and visitors alike. It’s a one-of-a-kind invitation for everyone, regardless of sexual orientation or gender, to come out and enjoy this uniquely Miami Tradition.

What is the Gay8 Festival?

Since its inception in 2014, the Gay8 Festival has grown into one of the premier celebrations along Calle Ocho(SW 8th Street). More than 60,000 revelers are expected to pack Miami’s historic Cuban neighborhood, Little Havana, for the festival, which will take place on Sunday, February 17, 2019 from 11 a.m. till 9 p.m.

Climate Changeon Saturday, February 16 as well as a Human Rights Symposium held on the campus of the University of Miami on February 17 and 18.

The street festival will shut down Calle Ocho between SW 14 Avenue and SW 17 Avenue along what is also known as the Calle Ocho Walk of Fame, where legends like Julio Iglesias and Miami’s own Gloria Estefan are honored. Salsa music will accompany you, begging you to move your hips or step aside for the couples who will take to the street to show the world how Miami loves to party! If one of the local musical groups playing on the main stage doesn’t get you moving, check the other stages where some of Miami’s hottest DJ’s will spin EDM and other club mixes which will surely do the trick!

With hundreds of booths set up along both sides of the street, the smell of delicious treats will tempt you from all directions. Follow the smell of fresh seafood to Casa Panza, a Calle Ocho legend that will be serving Paella that they cook in a giant pan right on the street. Or step across the street to El Cristo Restaurant and get your fill of Cuban delicacies like mariquitas, croquetas and ropa vieja. If you have a sweet tooth, channel your inner Celia Cruz and head over to for a sweet treat to cool things off. Learn how to roll a Cuban Cigar at one of the live demonstrations put on at Little Havana Cigar Factory or one of the many other cigar shops that keep the Cuban tradition alive.

Festival organizers have partnered with some amazing organizations to really connect Miami’s disparate communities with Little Havana. Miami Dade College’s Tower Theatre will partner with the OUTshine Film Festival to present LGBTQ themed movies that will run throughout the day, free of charge! Check out the exhibits at the Stonewall National Museum and Archives and The American Museum of the Cuban Diaspora. Attendees will have the opportunity to take guided tours of Little Havana and learn more about the part it has played for many of Miami’s immigrant communities throughout the years.

As well as being kid-friendly, the festival is also pet-friendly — there will be a pet zone where your pooch can meet a few new friends while you shop for art from one of the numerous vendors who will be on hand to showcase their creations. Bring a friend and get there early, as parking lots and garages will fill up quickly. Check out public transportation options — or carpool — the more the merrier!
