Mercury Transits the Sun

Nov 11, 2019
9:30 AM to 1:00 PM

The Southern Cross Astronomical Society (SCAS) and The Deering Estate will be hosting an Astronomy viewing event to see Mercurys transit across the sun. There will be telescopes available with solar filters on the hi-tech equipment to view Mercury safely. On Monday November 11, 2019, Mercury will transit the Sun for the first time since 2016. The transit or passage of a planet across the face of the Sun is a relatively rare occurrence. As seen from Earth, only transits of Mercury and Venus are possible. There are approximately 13 transits of Mercury each century. Cost: Included with General Admission ($15 adults, $7 ages 4-14). Tickets can be purchased at the Main Gate upon entry to the event. Free for Deering Estate Foundation Members.
