Unity360 Race In Retrospect Community Dialogue Workshop

Sep 7, 2019
10:00 AM to 1:00 PM

Free

Please join us as South Florida People of Color presents the Race in Retrospect series, a “deep dive” into racism in South Florida featuring three widely recognized Black History scholars. Co-hosted by St. Stephen's Episcopal Church and generously supported by a grant from the Florida Humanities Council. In the Unity360 Community Race Dialogue, Paul Ortiz, author of An African-American and LatinX History of the United States and our Unity360 Facilitators will discuss how African Americans, LatinX and Haitians inspired each other with their struggles and activism against imperialism and white supremacy. As we look at where we are today, we will examine antiblackness in the Latinx community, anti-immigrant sentiments in the Black community, and how the "divide and conquer" strategy has been successfully employed by white supremacist capitalist powers. Attendance at the Thursday evening book talk is not required to participate in the Saturday morning dialogue. Register for one or both.
