Artechouse

Showcasing innovative, technology-driven experiential art, Artechouse, in South Beach, explores the intersection of art, science and technology.

Through April 2023

“MAGENTAVERSE.” Artechouse’s marquee exhibition this winter and spring is an immersive, multisensory exploration of this year’s color (PANTONE 18-1750 Viva Magenta), with textures and interactions in multiple rooms.

Bakehouse Art Complex

The Bakehouse Art Complex presents workshops, exhibition space and development resources in Wynwood for select emerging and mid-career artists.

“Say Their Names: A Public Art Memorial Project” and “New Topographies.” As you approach the historic Art Deco bakery building that houses the Bakehouse, you’ll see Chire “VantaBlack" Regans’ mural, “Say Their Names: A Public Art Memorial Project,” on the western facade. Inside, explore “New Topographies,” a multi-site installation by architect and multi-disciplinary artist Gabriela Gamboa.

The Bass

A museum housed in a 1930s Art Deco library and art center designed by Russell Pancoast, The Bass is an anchor of South Beach’s contemporary art scene.

“El fin de la imaginación (The End of Imagination).” This installation by Adrián Villar Rojas with Mariana Telleria asks the question: “What will happen when our terrestrial fictions, the ones that cement nations and identities, travel to outer space?”

March 2023 through January 2024

“Between Absence and Presence.” The third work in the museum’s New Monuments series, this site-specific monument is by Venezuelan-American artist, architect and cultural activist Carola Bravo.

Coral Gables Museum

The Coral Gables Museum celebrates, investigates and explores the civic arts of architecture and urban and environmental design of Coral Gables.

“The World as I Know It.” This exhibit presents a collection of mixed-media engravings and a large sculpture by Haitian-American artist Edouard Duval-Carrié.

Through August 13, 2023

“The Vote That Saved The Biltmore: The Edifying Legacy of Dorothy Thomson.” Dorothy Thomson’s legacy includes the preservation and restoration of the Biltmore Hotel and the redevelopment of Miracle Mile.

Institute of Contemporary Art, Miami

The Institute of Contemporary Art, Miami, in the Miami Design District, offers free, year-round access to innovative contemporary art.

“Nina Chanel Abney: Big Butch Energy.” In this installation of paintings and collage in narrative, Nina Chanel Abney pays homage to the figure of the Black masculine woman.

Through March 19, 2023

“Michel Majerus: Progressive Aesthetics.” This is the first survey of work by the late artist Michel Majerus in a U.S. museum.

Through April 30, 2023

“Hervé Télémaque: 1959 –1964.” Featuring over a dozen paintings, this retrospective focuses on the artist’s earliest years.

Through May 7, 2023

“Jiang Cheng.” This first institutional presentation by Shanghai portraitist Jiang Cheng explores the artist’s preoccupation with the expressive powers of the human face.

Lowe Art Museum

The Lowe Art Museum at the University of Miami in Coral Gables holds a collection of nearly 20,000 objects spanning five millennia.

“Alex Trimino: Stitching the Gap.” In this installation, the native Colombian artist mixes craft fibers with high-tech elements.

“Complete and Perfect Truths: 200 Years of British Watercolors from the Collection of BNY Mellon.” Nearly 70 works by British master artists between the 1770s and the 1930s reflect the changing societal, political and economic issues of the times.

Through February 26, 2023

“Charles White: A Little Higher” and “Jacob Lawrence: The Legend of John Brown.” “Charles White: A Little Higher” showcases 50 of the artist’s “images of dignity” of African Americans. Jacob Lawrence’s fifth narrative series explores key moments in a white abolitionist’s life.

Museum of Contemporary Art, North Miami

Inspired by its surrounding communities, the Museum of Contemporary Art in North Miami showcases contemporary art through exhibits, programming and collections.

“To What Lengths.” On your way into the museum, don’t miss this exploration of how ideas about legacy are woven into everyday actions. Artist VantaBlack uses five palm trees on the plaza as her canvas.

Through April 16, 2023

“Didier William: Nou Kite Tout Sa Dèyè (We’ve Left That All Behind).” Included in this largest retrospective of the artist’s career are 40 painted works, new drawings and artist books as well as his first monumental sculpture.

Museum of Graffiti

The Museum of Graffiti, in Wynwood, presents the work of both global and local graffiti artists in indoor and outdoor spaces.

“Writers on Wax: The Sound of Graffiti.” This exhibition supports a vinyl release of “Writers on Wax,” with nine tracks “by international producers who are more (in)famous as graffiti writers than musicians.” “OLÉ” showcases artists ISE, FINOK, SKOLAS and THIAGO NEVS of Sao Paolo’s VLOK Crew.

Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum

The Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum, on the Modesto A. Maidique Campus of Florida International University in Westchester, provides free access to world-class art spanning many cultures and time periods.

“In the Mind's Eye: Landscapes of Cuba.” Get a glimpse into how Cuban and American painters from 1850 to 1910 reflected Cuban society on their canvases.

“An Elegy to Rosewood.” This exhibition of historic photos and heirlooms commemorates the 100-year anniversary of the Rosewood Massacre.

“Dreaming in Multiverse.” Chitra Ganesh’s prints and video animations are part of her exploration of experimental storytelling.

“Everything, Earth and Sky.” Frost Art holds one of the largest collections of Haitian paintings from the 1980s and 1990s. This exhibit is part of the museum’s continuing effort to make that collection available to scholars and the public.

“Abraham’s Farewell to Ishmael.” See George Segal’s life-size sculpture for the first time since its complete restoration.

“Christo Drawings: A Gift from the Maria Bechily and Scott Hodes Collection.” A crucial part of the production of the ephemeral art projects Christo and his wife and artistic collaborator Jean-Claude created, these drawings memorialize those projects.

“Bright Star.” Set in the American South in the 1920s and ‘40s, this story of love and redemption is by Steve Martin and Edie Brickell.
