Miami’s historic neighborhood of Coconut Grove is experiencing a revival, with many new restaurants and shops popping up every day, and there’s no better retreat in this Bohemian enclave than The Mayfair at Coconut Grove. The boutique hotel has been a mainstay in the Grove since the 80s, but has a fresh new look thanks to recent renovations. The Mayfair is nestled in the heart of the city and guests will enjoy the convenience of walking to many of the area’s main attractions such as the iconic CocoWalk, bayfront parks, outdoor cafes, a cinema and more.

However, once you enter through the ornate, mahogany-framed door, you may not want to leave. You’ll instantly feel at home, but equally in awe of the architectural gem that boasts many different design influences from Europe, Asia, the Caribbean, Mexico and South America. The lobby is bright and welcoming, with a sleek marble welcome desk framed with a natural moss wall and neon sign modeling the hotel’s name. The entire hotel offers a romantic feel with smooth- flowing indoor and outdoor spaces bursting with tropical foliage, palm trees and waterfalls. Extra perk? Dogs are also welcome and are treated to a plush bed and biscuits upon arrival.

When it’s time to retire for the night, you’ll find 179 sophisticated and tranquil suites fitted with hand-carved mahogany headboards, soft Egyptian-cotton bedding and roomy patios. Guests are treated to spacious rooms — even the smallest rooms are almost 500-square-feet and offer sitting areas and private patios with lush gardens. The all-marble bathrooms are standouts with stone floors and Roman spa tubs. Some rooms even have Japanese hot tubs on the secluded patios. If you’re looking for an indulgent, romantic stay, book the presidential suite, which offers 1,200 square feet of bliss with a king-sized canopy bed and an oversized marble bathroom with a large soaking tub. This is the room you wish you had back home!

If you’re seeking a luxurious rubdown or a Miami-bright mani-pedi, slip away to The Jurlique Spa, the only one of its kind in South Florida, where they take a holistic approach to treatments and use organic products to rejuvenate the face and body. When you enter the tranquil spa, you’re immediately greeted by the scent of essential oils and treated to beautiful Tiffany stained glass ceilings (treatment rooms also offer beautiful stained-glass windows). Choose from decadent treatments like the 90-minute “A Touch of Heaven” facial to the “Tangerine Mimosa Massage,” a full body massage that includes a back scrub cocktail of tangerine mimosa. And if a workout is your idea of bliss during vacation, there’s a 24-hour fitness center — our top exercise pick is the complimentary rooftop yoga class every Saturday morning.

The hotel’s signature restaurant has recently undergone a huge revamp, transitioning from an Italian eatery (formerly called Spartico) to Mayfair Kitchen, offering artistic, health-focused dishes made with local ingredients. The restaurant has a totally refreshed look with bright, clean lines, stone walls, New York subway tiles and colorful blue and white tiles for a pop of color. At the helm is Chef Ted Mendez, who’s led the kitchens of some of Miami’s best restaurants and prides himself on vegetable-forward and vegan dishes, and beautifully composed plates with naturally raised meats and locally caught seafood. Look to the restaurant’s centerpiece, the wood-burning oven, for baked spinach with lemon and parmesan; warm, crispy garlic bread; and wood-fired mac and cheese loaded with gouda and mozzarella. Then you can move on to heartier dishes like seared scallops dotted with black pepper or short rib surrounded by potatoes, celery, carrots and blue cheese.

The focal point of the hotel is the rooftop pool deck which offers picturesque views of Biscayne Bay, a heated pool and eight private cabanas fitted with sofas that can be reserved during the day or night. While it’s a prime spot for soaking up the sun, be sure you’re there at sunset when you’ll witness a stunning light show as the city transitions from day to night. Sit by the glowing fireplace, which evokes a romantic mood, and mingle with locals sipping cocktails at the ABOVE Lounge, while listening to some of the city’s best DJs mix the latest beats on Friday nights. You’ll feel like you’ve experienced South Beach’s party vibe without leaving the peaceful respite of Coconut Grove — and you’ll return home rejuvenated!
