If you want to elevate your next vacation, the stylish SLS Brickell hotel is a haven in the middle of busy Downtown Miami — sporting a rooftop pool deck with breathtaking city views, a luxurious spa, two restaurants helmed by James Beard Award-winning chefs and one of the most interesting check-ins you’ll most likely experience at a hotel. The sleek Philippe Starck-designed hotel extends the same imaginative vibe of other SLS properties but stands out with its digital, interactive art installation in the lobby. After walking the green carpet to check-in, you’ll notice a screen full of playful monkeys who will mirror your every move. Strike as many poses as you want and they’ll copy you (except for paying your bill, of course!)

This new property is also close to hot spots like Brickell City Centre, Perez Art Museum Miami and Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science. If you wish to venture off property in true style, there’s even a house BMW that will take you out up to two miles.

Refresh

The 124 guest rooms, which were all designed by Starck, are decked out in soothing pale pink and grey colors and offer a “never-want-to-leave” feeling — oh, and in true Starck form, there are mirrors everywhere — even on the ceilings. Wash away the day by enjoying rainfall shower heads and large, egg-shaped soaking tubs and then slip into complimentary robes and slippers before sinking into a super comfy bed. Mornings and evenings can be spent on the wrap-around balconies which impart beautiful views of Downtown; we’re partial to the “golden hour,” when the setting sun’s golden light dances off the surrounding towering buildings, but of course, it’s always a treat to watch the city wake up.

Rejuvenate

Pampering is a must when on vacation, and guests of the SLS can retreat to the serene Ciel Spa to spend time in the co-ed steam room or sauna, and then choose from signature treatments like Gold Rejuvenating Facials, Chakra Healing Body Treatments and Marine Flora Wraps. Fitness buffs should start their day by joining a free yoga class or get some exercise at the roomy fitness center which features cardio machines, free weights and spin bikes. Extra bonus? The hotel will even launder your sweaty fitness apparel.

Play

Who needs the beach when you have two shimmering pools in the sky that overlook Downtown Miami? Snag a colorfully-striped lounge chair on the Altitude Pool Deck, where you’ll share the gorgeous skyline views with Starck’s famous silver rubber duckie which grandly stands next to the pool. Order some light bites by José Andrés, and then kickback with a creative cocktail. This is an SLS property, so expect a party vibe at night or on weekends, but it’s much calmer than its sister property on South Beach.

When it comes to cocktails and mingling, guests have two different spots with two totally different vibes. On the second floor of the hotel, you can hide out at SAAM, a relaxed indoor-outdoor lounge that feels like a welcoming living room dressed in chic safari-inspired décor like antique globes and African masks. At the edgy Bar Centro, you’ll come face-to-face with its resident bull head that takes center stage at the bar, where you’ll want to order daring cocktails like a caipirinha made with liquid nitrogen and margaritas created with salt air. Don’t miss “Merienda Hour” where you’ll be treated to specials on libations and snacks every Tuesday through Friday from 5 p.m. - 7 p.m.

Indulge

With restaurants run by two world-class chefs, there’s no reason to leave the hotel for exceptional dining. For a seafood-centric meal presented in an over-the-top way, head to Bazaar Mar by Chef José Andrés. You’ll be instantly taken with the tranquil blue-and-white palette and tiles featuring a whimsical under-the-sea design. When it comes to what to order, the whole fish prepared a variety of ways is always a good idea, along with showcase dishes like the “California funnel cake,” a deconstructed California roll which arrives on an octopus stand, or the “bagel and lox,” which is lox resting atop air bread shaped like a fish.

Another standout choice is Fi'lia by Chef Michael Schwartz; a rustic Italian spot by one of Miami’s standout toques who’s also a James Beard Award Winner. Dinner begins with your server snipping fresh herbs for the olive oil — perfect for dipping the warm bread. You’ll want to summon the roving cart for the interactive tableside Caesar salad, where heaps of romaine are showered with shaved parmigiano and garlic croutons that are toasted on the spot. The menu includes handmade pastas like the simple spaghetti caccio e pepe and delicious pizzas. In other words, your trip to Miami will be delicious and you might want to hit the gym while on vacation!
