Miami’s reputation as an international cultural capital extends to the performing arts and ballet. There are a variety of world-class professional ballet companies that call Miami home with performances held throughout the year. If you happen to visit in September, you can also experience the International Ballet Festival of Miami when over 20 companies from around the world perform throughout the city.

Ballet Companies & Venues Miami City Ballet

Founded in 1985, Miami City Ballet is Miami’s premiere professional ballet company. Hailed by The New York Times as “one of America’s most beloved dance companies,” they’re not to be missed during your time in Miami. The troupe has scheduled performances at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts and other venues throughout South Florida.

The Miami City Ballet has more than 50 established professional dancers and a repertoire that features classical, modern, neo-classical and contemporary works. In order to preserve the city’s performing arts scene, the company established a pre-professional training academy, The Miami City Ballet School, which serves nearly 900 students annually from its Miami Beach campus.

With a season that runs from October through April, their annual holiday production of The Nutcracker is always a sell out. Other favorite ballets include classics like Swan Lake and A Midsummer Night’s Dream, as well as forays into modern dance with Twyla Tharp’s In the Upper Room. Miami City Ballet always presents a dynamic program for the city’s loyal ballet patrons as well as visitors looking for an unforgettable night out.
