Rental Cars

Renting a car in Miami is now easier than ever.

Ready to get behind the wheel? Miami is home to almost every major car rental company in existence and thousands of tourists rent cars when they visit the Magic City each year. Here are a few tips about car rentals in Miami.

For air travelers, it’s usually easiest to rent a car at Miami International Airport. And now that the new Rental Car Center is up and running, it’s really easy to hit the road in no time. Once your flight lands in Miami, grab your bags and hop on the MIA Mover, an elevated train system, and ride over to the Rental Car Center (located next to the Miami Intermodal Center, a new transportation hub that’s connected to the airport).

When choosing a rental car company, it’s important to stay informed about all of their policies, especially when it comes to age requirements, car insurance, rental policies and highway tolls. Each company is different, so contact them directly to inquire for more info. The more informed you are, the better decision you’ll be able to make when it comes to picking the right company for your trip. And the less stress you’ll feel during your vacation!

The following car rental companies are located at the Rental Car Center and are easily accessible via the MIA Mover:

• Advantage Rent A Car
• All Day Rent A Car
• Dollar Enterprise
• E-Z Rent A Car
• Firefly Car Rental
• National
• Payless
• P&P Family Auto Rental
• Royal
• Sixt
• Thrifty

The following car rental companies are not located at the Rental Car Center and you will need to specifically request transportation to and from the airport:

• 247 Miami Rent A Car
• ACE Rent A Car
• ACO Rent A Car
• Amigo’s Car Rental
• Auto Boutique Rent A Car
• Avanti Rent A Car
Fox Rent A Car
• Green Motion Car Rental
• Laflich Rental Services
• Penny Rent A Car
• On Trac Rent A Car
• Prestige Luxury Rentals
RentMax Car Rental
• Tu Florida Rent A Car
• Tyrex Rent A Car

When you’re returning your rental car to the airport, the easiest thing to do is plug in the Rental Car Center’s address into your GPS: 3900 NW 25th Street, Miami, FL 33142. And make sure you give yourself plenty of time before your flight to fill up the gas tank, return the car, and ride the MIA Mover back to the airport from the center.

Important Note About Tolls in Florida

The State of Florida operates a series of highways that require prepaid tolls (called SunPass) which is a small fee for all vehicles to use that section of the road. This toll applies to both locals and visitors alike and it’s how the state keeps our highway systems up-to-date and safe for all travelers.

It is very important for you to ask the rental car company what their policy is when it comes to paying for tolls. Sometimes they’ll give you a transponder to rent for a daily fee. Other companies will tack on a fee at the end of your trip. Avoid extra fees by researching your preferred rental car agency’s policy ahead of time.

Tips for Parking in Miami

Miami is a big metropolis, so expect to pay for parking in most areas of the city. Rates vary depending on the neighborhood and for how long you plan to park your car.

The Miami Parking Authority operates most of the public parking spaces in Downtown, Coconut Grove, Brickell, Little Havana, Wynwood and the Design District (including public lots, metered street parking and garages). The easiest way to pay for parking in these areas is to download the Pay by Phone app. And the good news is that you can use the same exact app whenever you’re paying to park in the City of Coral Gables.

The City of Miami Beach manages parking on South Beach and surrounding neighborhoods. Watch carefully for signs that state whether street parking is for residents only or is available to the public. The easiest way to pay for parking on Miami Beach is to download the ParkMobile app. And because parking can sometimes be scarce (especially during peak travel times), we recommend using the ParkMe - Miami Beach app, which will show you instantly where parking spots are available.
