Florida Grand Opera Family Day
This event has passed.
The Florida Grand Opera invites families for a complimentary afternoon of opera on Saturday, April 27 at the Doral Opera Center. This free event is a perfect opportunity to introduce children and adults alike to the world of opera.
The featured opera for Family Day is The Telephone by Gian Carlo Menotti. First performed on February 15, 1947, at the Heckscher Theater in New York, NY, the opera has since become a classic. Its libretto, also crafted by Menotti, weaves a tale of love, miscommunication and quirky characters. Sung entirely in English, the opera tells the humorous story of a man who's trying to propose to his girlfriend, but she's constantly distracted by her phone, oblivious to his presence. As their paths intersect, misunderstandings and comedic mishaps ensue, all set to Menotti’s melodic score. Filled with witty dialogue and catchy melodies, The Telephone is a crowd-pleaser for all ages.
