Ken Peplowski & Friends
This event has passed.
Start off of the new year with an oceanside concert featuring one of the world's foremost jazz clarinetists Ken Peplowski and Friends at the Sunday, January 7 installment of the Ocean Drive Promenade Music Series, a free, weekly concert series presented by the Ocean Drive Association. Hailed by Downbeat Magazine as "brilliantly entertaining," Peplowski is known for his dazzling improvisations and masterful clarinet (and saxophone) skills. Pack a picnic blanket or lawn chair to stake out your seat on the lawn. Showtime is at 5:00 PM, between 14th Street and 14th Place at Lummus Park.
As a sponsored artist of Buffet Crampton, the storied French manufacturer of woodwind musical instruments, Peplowski plays the R-13 clarinet with a Portnoy mouthpiece and Van Doren German-cut reeds. He currently serves as artistic director for three large-scale jazz events, including the Sarasota Jazz Festival, the Newport Beach Jazz Party and the Oregon Coast Jazz Party, located in Newport, Oregon. In 2018, Peplowski was bestowed the "Creative Arts Prize In Recognition Of Outstanding Contribution In The Field Of The Creative Arts" by the Polish American Historical Association.
