Sneaker Stories Presented by Modelo
This event has passed.
From the streets to your feet, a cultural story unfolds. The Museum of Graffiti, in collaboration with Modelo, unveils its latest exhibition, Sneaker Stories, on Saturday, April 20, from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. This opening marks the first stop for the exhibit, which will travel to Atlanta (May 31) and Washington, D.C. (August 2024).
Sneaker Stories explores the compelling connection between graffiti art and sneaker culture. It explores how these two creative forces have influenced each other, particularly through collaborations between iconic graffiti artists and major brands. Visitors can expect to see a curated selection of artwork and rare sneakers from 2003 to the present, featuring the work of renowned graffiti artists like Futura, Rammellzee and Miami's own ABSTRK.
Beyond the art, the exhibition also highlights how sneaker companies have partnered with graffiti artists to create limited-edition, highly sought-after shoes. These collaborations not only push design boundaries but also demonstrate how sneakers have transcended their function to become integral to urban art and culture. "Sneaker Stories" celebrates these artists who have crossed over from the streets to collaborate with giants like Nike, Reebok and Adidas, influencing countless others in the process.
At the museum's Miami opening, witness ABSTRK hand-embellish his new VRTX Lab sneakers in collaboration with Billionaire Boys Club starting at 4 p.m. Later, join Claw Money, Cey Adams, and ABSTRK for a panel discussion moderated by Danny Hidalgo of Solefly at 6 p.m. as they discuss their experiences designing shoes. Wrap up the night with a party featuring beats by Jarobi of A Tribe Called Quest starting at 7 p.m.
As part of the opening night experience, Modelo will be offering a complimentary sneaker customization bar. Visitors can personalize their own shoes with laces, charms and more, reflecting the creative spirit of both graffiti and sneaker cultures.
