Miami has long boasted the flavors of Cuba and Latin America. Now, there’s also a wide range of Asian fusion and pan-Asian cuisine across Miami. Whether it’s Chinese, Thai, Japanese or an only-in-Miami fusion, here’s where to find the best Asian fusion cuisine in Miami.

Miami Beach

Azabu at The Stanton South Beach

The South Beach outpost of this Michelin-starred New York City sushi den is tucked away in a stylish, zen-like dining room inside The Stanton hotel. Start with the Japanese wagyu tataki with truffle ponzu or the grilled octopus with coriander mayo. For your entrée, choose from a selection of sashimi over sushi rice, branzino with umami butter or the kobu skirt steak. And for dessert, save room for Masa’s chocolate cake, matcha cheesecake or yuzu key lime pie.

NaiYaRa

NaiYaRa is run by longtime Miami-based Thai chef Piyarat Potha Arreeratn, lovingly known as “Chef Bee.” The stylish dining room in Sunset Harbour boasts high industrial ceilings and wooden chandeliers. You’ll find both traditional and experimental dishes influenced by Thailand’s various regions. From the melt-in-your-mouth salmon tacos with avocado and truffle oil to the finger-licking delicious sriracha chicken wings with sweet chili, there are more than a few crave-worthy dishes here. You’ll also find everything from the familiar pad thai to the exotic green curry sea bass.

    Bal Harbour

    Makoto

    Ask a Miamian what their favorite Japanese/sushi restaurant is and there’s a pretty good chance that they’ll respond with Makoto. Helmed by chef Makoto Okuwa at the swanky Bal Harbour Shops, it’s a treat for a lunchtime shopping break or an extravagant dinner. Amongst their exquisite menu, top dishes include the frosty kobe fried rice with foie gras and a jidori egg that cooks tableside, wagyu short rib robata grill and Hamachi ponzu sashimi.

      Downtown & Brickell

      Zuma at Kimpton EPIC

      Zuma is a Japanese stunner located inside the luxurious Kimpton EPIC hotel in Downtown. It’s also a magnet for celebrities, from Kim Kardashian to Will Smith. The London import’s stylish and luxurious dining room overlooks the Miami River where everything from sushi to robata to tempura is executed to perfection. Brunch is an event here with unlimited Champagne, cocktails, buffet and made-to-order entrees. Don’t leave without sampling their decadent dessert platter.

      Komodo

      Komodo opened its doors as a flashy outpost for contemporary Southeast Asian cuisine by nightlife impresario David Grutman. Make your dinner reservations late and revel in the high-energy scene created by the man behind South Beach’s hottest clubs LIV and Story. Menu highlights include Peking duck, lobster dynamite roll with crispy quinoa and the namesake Komodo roll with wild mushrooms, white soy, tempura enoki and truffle oil.

        Wynwood

        Hiden

        It’s not uncommon to have to wait a month to get a reservation at Hiden, Miami’s newest omakase sushi hotspot. The intimate Wynwood speakeasy seats only eight diners with two nightly seatings. The ever-changing eight-course chef’s tasting menu consists of cold and hot dishes along with dessert made of fresh, seasonal ingredients. The brainchild of San Diego restaurateurs Showa Hospitality Group, a meal here is a must for any serious foodie.

        1-800-LUCKY

        When 1-800-LUCKY opened, it became an instant hotspot in this hip neighborhood. A mecca for everything from bao buns to ramen, it turns into a high-energy nightlife destination with live DJs as day turns to night. With seven different food vendors, two cocktail bars and an outdoor patio, there’s plenty to taste and discover at. Don’t skip the tuna poke bowl at Poke OG, the Vietnamese meatball sandwich at Les Banh Amis and be sure to save room for the matcha green tea and roasted black sesame ice cream from Taiyaki served in a fish-shaped waffle cone with red bean paste.

          Coral Gables & Coconut Grove

          Ichimi Ramen

          For your ramen fix, head to Ichimi in beautiful Coral Gables. Using a noodle-making machine imported from Japan, enjoy ramen in one of three preparations: traditional swimming in broth, dipping-style with a side of broth or cold in a salad presentation. The space is intimate and cozy, perfect for a relaxed meal. Other menu highlights include scallion pancakes, fried oysters, gyoza dumplings and pork buns.

          Akashi

          With its original location established in 1993 in South Miami, Akashi’s sister location in Coconut Grove is one of the best spots in the neighborhood for a traditional Japanese/sushi dinner. With everything from sushi, sashimi and hand rolls on the menu, they also specialize in entrees like teriyaki chicken, fish katsu and pan-fried tilapia. Their namesake Akashi roll is made with eel, krab, avocado, cucumber and spicy mayo with eel sauce, cream cheese, masago and sesame seeds.

            South Dade

            Tropical Chinese

            Established in 1984, South Miami’s Tropical Chinese has something of a cult following. About 16 miles southwest of South Beach, it’s worth the drive for their authentic Hong Kong-style dim sum, and it’s a pilgrimage every Miami foodie has made at least once. With more than 56 varieties to choose from, fresh, steaming dumplings roll through the dining room on carts. They include everything from the crispy shrimp ball, roast pork turnover, beef dumplings and stuffed tofu.

            Ghee Indian Kitchen

            Ghee Indian Kitchen is the brainchild of chef Niven Patel, an alum of James Beard Award-winning Michael’s Genuine. Sourcing produce from the restaurant-owned farm dubbed Rancho Patel and working with local fisherman, the menu changes constantly to reflect the freshest ingredients. A sophisticated take on Indian cuisine, menu highlights include crispy cauliflower, chicken tika masala with heirloom tomatoes and charred ribs with cranberry chutney. A great way to enjoy a meal here is with the three-course, family-style chef’s tasting menu.
