KAREN RIFAS: Deceptive Constructions

Now through   -  Oct 22 2018

Opening Reception: Wednesday, May 23, 8–10 p.m.

Miami-based artist Karen Rifas experiments with the effects of color contrast on the perception of space. Combined with the interplay of converging lines or irregular polyhedrons, the resulting compositions have an astonishing variety and range of references, from textile patterns to art historical standards. Deceptive Constructions is Rifas’ first solo museum exhibition in over 10 years and includes recent work made within the last year, encompassing works on paper, sculpture and vinyl floor drawings. As with her colorful geometric forms on paper, the spatial and optical experience created by the vinyl and sculptural objects simulates and reinforces the malleability of perception.
