Surfside – The Uptown Beachtown - is certainly on people's mind's these days - and well it should be. With the recent opening of the luxurious Four Seasons Hotel at The Surf Club along with its lavish spa and the masterful Le Sirenuse restaurant hailing directly from Italy’s Amalfi Coast, Surfside is awash in a new patina of elegance health and wellness. Nestled between Bal Harbour and North Miami Beach, it’s also home to a tight-knit community of locals who love the area for its charm.
One of the best ways to experience Surfside is to visit during its Third Thursdays festivities. Held during the winter season from January through April, this family-friendly block party takes place on 95th Street between Harding and Collins Avenue from 6 to 9 p.m. Going strong for the last ten years, it’s one of the town’s most beloved traditions and a big highlight is sharing it with visitors from near and far. Guests can expect a fun-filled evening with live entertainment, music and delicious food at this free event open to the public.
The extravaganza is divided into three zones. Zone one is dedicated to entertainment and features live music, giveaways and a photo op. The second zone is for community culture where family-friendly and wellness activities take place. Zone three is all about the grub with food trucks including a Kosher option, as well as a hydration station.
In 2018, Third Thursday’s family-friendly programming will focus on health and wellness with a fun theme every month. On January 18, guests are encouraged to bring their bicycles for the Surfside Ride Third Thursday celebration. Roll into town on your bicycle, skateboard or rollerblades and enjoy an evening with this bike-friendly, beachside community. A bicycle competition with prizes is in the works.
On February 15, the Third Thursday theme is Get Sporty. Wear your favorite sportswear and participate in a wide variety of aerobics and fitness activities. If you want to get really creative, put together an outfit inspired by workout videos from the 1980s, complete with leg warmers and leotards.
March 15 is Pet Night at Third Thursday, so bring your furry friend to the festivities. Enter your pooch into the Cute Pet Contest for prizes or take a leap and adopt a pet from a shelter organization that will be onsite working to place their animals at a forever home.
For the final Third Thursday of the season on April 19, the theme is Throwback Thursday, so have your Instagram and clever hashtags handy! They’ll be celebrating Surfside’s history and guests can dress in the style of their favorite decade. Live music will also take a journey through the ages and there will be a costume contest with prizes.
When Miami’s season heats up, don’t forget to mellow out and mingle with the locals at one of the most beloved beach towns in the area. Don’t miss Surfside’s Third Thursday celebrations.
