For almost 30 years Miami has been the host of Winter Music Conference, the premiere platform for EDM, or electronic dance music. More than 70 countries send delegates to represent their music industries and more than 100,000 attendees flock to Miami for workshops, events, concerts and parties, parties and more parties.
Winter Music Conference (WMC) takes place every year in March. The most popular event of this annual conference is ULTRA Music Festival, a raging weekend long outdoor concert in Miami’s Downtown with the biggest DJs and electronic music artists on earth. If you’ve ever heard of electronic music, you’ve probably heard of ULTRA.
WMC is more than just ULTRA, it’s hundred of events over the course of the week that run the gamut from educational and technological workshops to crazy raves at venues around the city. In 2013, more than 133 venues participated in throwing 533 events over the course of just a week. The list of DJs and artists who participated in 2013 alone spans thousands of names.

DJs & Artists Highlights
“For the past 28 years, Miami’s Winter Music Conference has been America’s largest electronic music event. The event has consistently brought the world’s biggest DJs to Miami, decades before the term “EDM” was dreamed into existence,” writes Spinner, a music and entertainment website.
Winter Music Conference, and Miami’s year round thriving musical environment, have helped define the genre of EDM or electronic dance music, once an underground segment of electronic music that has now burst through to mainstream pop music. Names like David Guetta, Tiesto and Grammy winner Skrillex are some of these artists who have made radio-friendly hits. Thousands more DJs have used the WMC platform to elevate their status within the scene, network with music insiders and make music and have fun times together. For those working in the music industry, WMC has long been a go-to event, but it’s not just music business professionals that are invited to WMC.
Beyond the business networking and music industry events, Winter Music Conference is mostly about the same thing that Electronic Dance Music is about, parties and having a good time. Clubs and venues in Miami host raves, parties and events. If you’re visiting for just the partying, be sure to do a bit of research about tickets, club policies and schedules to ensure that you make it to the events you’re interested in. Many of the parties and concerts require tickets in advance and can sell out.
Parties range from a full Avicii take-over of a 16-room boutique hotel to surprise sets from top billing artists.
Other featured events include panel discussions, workshops, DJ Spin Offs, remixing and editing workshops, demo listening workshops, a VJ challenge, seminars and even a much acclaimed awards show.
International Dance Music Awards
Over two million EDM music fans weigh in on who deserves the International Dance Music Awards. The IDMA awards are the industry highlight of the action-packed week. The IDMA’s serve to award innovation and talent in the industry as well as serve as a platform for artists to propel their careers to the next level. Awards span genres within the electronic music umbrella and include Best Underground Dance Track, Best House/Garage/Deep House Track, Best European DJ and many more.
