While Wynwood is a great place to scope out the international street art scene and enjoy a delicious meal surrounded by great works of art, it’s also a great place to find unique shopping and special goods to take back home with you.
The stores in Wynwood are mostly small boutiques and concept stores specializing in design and lifestyle goods. Hunt through an assortment of European linens and tableware, peruse one local artist’s living home décor, upgrade your home with high-end Italian furnishings and trigger your imagination with funky design goods. Wynwood is an artist’s enclave with more than 70 galleries housing pieces by local and international artists of all kinds – don’t forget that it’s all on sale. Look at a piece of art everyday in your home that will remind you of your sunny day spent shopping and gallery hopping in Wynwood.
Wynwood’s main street is NW 2nd Avenue and many of the area’s most popular store line the street. Venture into some of the offshoot streets and find more shopping opportunities and wallet temping offers.
Eclectic Home Finds
Shop for fun and quirky mementos to take home with you from Wynwood’s chic and design forward boutique. At Elemental, just across the street from Wynwood’s famous Panther Coffee, is a collection of strange and often-humorous design finds for the home and work space by international designers and artists. Shop here for “smart design, flawless industrial production and reasonable prices,” like bookends that look like balloon animals to modern birdhouses.
For more practical things to take back to your home check out The French Atmosphere, a store specializing in unique home and design products with a focus on the best brands of France, Germany and Italy. Find art in the form of home goods at this boutique filled with high-end imported products like linens, tabletop items, soaps, creams, lotions and perfumes.
If you’ve ever been to another boutique that’s part greenhouse, part gallery, part whimsical eco-wonderland, park shoppable living home goods – we’d like to know where it is, because around here, Plant The Future is the most unique space in town. Plant The Future’s artist, Paloma Teppa, blurs the lines between art, home décor and landscaping. Her unique creations, large and small, are plant based architectural designs almost always on a white base. Think a long white vase full of spikey and long-lasting air plants or a life size white horse with a mane made of airplants. This store is a must-stop in the Wynwood neighborhood and the simple, but very unique designs would look lovely in any home or make a terrific hostess gift if you’re staying with friends in town.
At Saccaro, old-world skill and family tradition is taken seriously. This store specializes in indoor and outdoor furniture that’s superbly designed. The beautiful craftsmanship of Saccaro’s designs will inspire you to rethink the design of your current home from inside out. The high quality materials found at Saccaro are long-lasting investment pieces that wear well and sustain the elements of everyday living.
Fashion Forward Boutiques
Like any chic, hip enclave Miami’s Wynwood is home to a handful of vintage stores. Vintage shopping is all the rage; why buy something new when history has already given us such great goods? Las Tias is just one of the area’s many upscale resale shops. You’ll find it all: earrings from the 50s, a patio set from the 60s or a piece of wall art.
Another option for funky finds you can wear can be found at Haus Fashion Lab. This store blends emerging designers with big names in fashion. Here you’ll find a variety of vintage goods, bathing suits from Uruguay and eco-bags from Mexico.
Frangipani is a new addition to Wynwood’s Main Street. The walls of this open and airy space are filled with unusual finds ranging from home goods to baby onesies – all with a serious respect for design. Find stationary, scarves, beach goods, beauty products, local designer finds, accessories and jewelry with a fresh and unique feel.
Second Saturday’s Art Walk
Wynwood’s Art Walk, held on the second Saturday of every month, is not just a fun and happening way to get some fresh air and good people-watching in. It’s a great place to scope out new talent and purchase one-of-a-kind souvenirs. At Art Walk, the galleries stay open late with their doors wide open. Sometimes these galleries are by appointment only, so this is a way to get a sneak-peek into an otherwise exclusive scene. Street vendors line the sidewalks selling everything from small canvas paintings to exotic handmade jewelry and high-tech watches; and local cafes and coffee shops set up pop-up stores for local artisans and artists.
