The Erotics of Friendship
This event has passed.
Explore the profound and enduring friendship between two prominent figures of the Harlem Renaissance - writer, patron and photographer Carl Van Vechten, and translator, actress and teacher Dorothy Randolph Peterson - in this talk by Queer Literary Studies scholar Dr. Octavio R. González. Focusing on Van Vechten and Petersen's pivotal collaboration in establishing the James Weldon Johnson Memorial Collection at Yale University, González will delve into the erotic nature of the friendship, as evidenced by the pair's increasing intimacy and extensive correspondence spanning decades. Attendees will gain insights into themes highlighted in the Wolf's exhibition, Silhouettes: Image and Word in the Harlem Renaissance.
