Before You Begin:
To complete the Internship application, you will need to have the following required documents ready to download:
- Current Resume
- Enrollment in School or College Admission Documentation
- Income Status Documentation (if required)
- One Character References
Criteria for Eligibility
- Be of African American or Black of African descent
- Possess a strong work ethic and desire to build a career in the Hospitality Tourism /Visitor Industry
- Be a Miami-Dade County Resident
- Be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent U.S. Resident
Students in the Internship/Apprenticeship program will gain valuable skills and knowledge in the career fields of Hospitality and Tourism. Students must complete at least one semester in a selected sector to lead to career pathways, high-level experience, and industry exposure.
Interns and trainees will receive industry standards and best practices for training in selected areas that will increase skills and competency levels in sectors of their choice. Student Interns, Trainees, and Apprentices who complete training can move toward the front-line, middle, and upper management positions.
Participants receive on-the-job training, related classroom instruction, college credit, scholarship opportunities, and paid and unpaid wages. Placement may range from 3 to 12 months.
Students will work with trained professionals while incorporating real-world experiential learning in the industry. Interns once again will be assigned to the field of their interest and in careers tracts such as:
- Beverage Management Culinary Management
- Event Management Global Sustainable Tourism
- Hotel/Lodging Management Restaurant/Foodservice Management
- Spirits Management
- Travel & Tourism Management
- Aviation Management
- Hospitality Administration/Travel & Tourism Hospitality & Tourism Management
- Sports Administration
- Other Hospitality & Tourism sectors
