GMCVB Named Best Domestic Destination at Annual “Academy Awards” of Travel Industry

MIAMI, FL (November 2021) — The Greater Miami Convention and Visitors Bureau (GMCVB) won two Travvy Awards this year. Given out by the Northstar Travel Group, the Travvy Awards are considered the “Academy Awards” of the travel industry and celebrate the industry’s best brands.

The GMCVB received gold for Best Domestic Destination and bronze for Best Travel Agent Academy Program for its Specialist Program. Launched in May of 2020 during the height of the pandemic, the GMCVB’s Specialist Program offers travel advisors a high-level educational overview of the destination. With more than 4,400 advisors having participated in the program, 2,500 have gone on to graduate as Miami experts.

CEO David Whitaker said he was proud of the GMCVB’s achievement. “It’s a recognition of Miami’s appeal and the work our GMCVB team put in during the last year, facing challenges unlike ever before. To win gold as the best domestic destination during a global pandemic is not only exciting at this moment, but indicative of how much we still have to look forward to as the entire travel industry rebounds in the near future,” he said.

Now in their seventh year, the Travvy Awards were held for the first time at the Miami Beach Convention Center, itself a recent award winner during Northstar Meetings Group’s annual Stella Awards.

The Travvy Awards recognize top suppliers, destinations, technology providers and attractions. These awards are particularly meaningful as they are voted on by travel advisors, the key influencers in travel. The GMCVB was selected by the best of the best travel advisors in the country who have direct knowledge about each category, company and organization nominated.

Allianz Partners, Hotel Xcaret, American Queen Voyages and Air Canada sponsored this year’s awards. In addition to their recognition at the awards gala, winners of the Travvy Award will be featured in Agent@Home Magazine and profiled on TravelPulse.com.
