Explore Miami's Burgeoning Tech Scene
- September 11, 2023
A destination known for its beautiful beaches, diverse culture and lively nightlife, Greater Miami & Miami Beach is quickly becoming a thriving technology hub. With the area’s entrepreneurial business environment and increasing investment in the tech sector, it's no wonder Miami attracts global tech companies, entrepreneurs and investors.

Miami Is a Hub for Technology Companies and Conferences
With organizations such as eMerge Americas fostering the growth of Miami’s tech ecosystem, the destination’s tech scene has exploded over the past few years. Led by CEO and president Melissa Medina, eMerge Americas aims to transform Miami into a major tech hub by facilitating collaboration between government, academia, start-ups and investors. Its annual global tech conference and expo, held at the Miami Beach Convention Center in South Beach, brings together industry leaders and entrepreneurs to exchange ideas and drive innovation.
Miami’s Growing Entrepreneurial Community Draws Technology Leaders
What makes Miami so alluring to technology leaders from around the world? In part, it’s the destination's impressive entrepreneurial presence. According to the Global Entrepreneurship Network, Miami’s start-up ecosystem value increased by 160% in 2022, with early-stage funding increasing by 64%.
Much of the credit for this improvement goes to the Knight Foundation, which since 2012 has invested more than $62 million to grow Miami’s tech and entrepreneurship ecosystem. That investment has helped launch both eMerge Americas and Endeavor Miami as well as programs to train the next generation of tech professionals, such as the Knight Foundation School of Computing and Information Sciences at Florida International University and MDC Tech at Miami Dade College.
Credit for boosting the tech industry also goes to accelerators such as Venture Hive, which was founded by CEO Susan Amat in 2013. Venture Hive helps support technology businesses and start-ups.
Miami, the Silicon Valley of the East?
Another draw for technology leaders is the growing presence of Silicon Valley companies. Google, Meta, X, formerly Twitter, and Uber all have offices in Miami.
While comparing Miami to established tech hub Silicon Valley may seem premature, the area’s rapid population growth and increasing investment in the tech sector are promising signs. Miami offers several advantages over traditional tech hubs, including options for a lower cost of living and an attractive lifestyle. The city’s proximity to Latin America also positions it as a gateway to the region, attracting companies looking to expand their presence in the Latin American market.
