This event has passed.
Multi-grammy-winning jazz maestro Arturo O’Farrill and his 20-piece Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra take to the Miami Beach Bandshell stage on Saturday, October 21 for an unforgettable evening of nostalgia, mambo and Afro-Cuban jazz. O’Farrill and his orchestra will revisit the works of Gillespie, his father (Chico O’Farrill) and other jazz giants of the big-band era with a program that includes iconic compositions such as "The Manteca Suite" and the "Afro Cuban Jazz Suite" along with new works and arrangements by an array of today's most distinguished Latin jazz artists. Presented by Live Arts Miami, this not-to-be-missed show is O’Farrill’s debut Miami performance.
A pianist, composer and son of the legendary Cuban composer, Chico O’Farill, Arturo O’Farrill has earned eight Grammys with his orchestra, including his most recent win in 2023 for Best Jazz Album. During the last several years, O’Farrill and his orchestra have performed at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, the Boston Symphony Hall, the Newport Jazz Festival, to name a few.
To mark the occasion of his first ever Miami performance, O’Farrill will be joined on stage by a stellar line up of Cuban divas that include Dayme Arocena, Aymee Nuviola and Telmary. Singer and bandleader Daymé Arocena is known for her massive voice that has inspired comparisons to Aretha Franklin and Celia Cruz. Dubbed as “La Sonera del Mundo”, Grammy-winning Cuban singer, composer and actress Aymée Nuviola is one of the founders of the Timba music genre. Poet and rapper Telmary is one of the leaders in the Cuban hip-hop revolution.
