Garden Delights
Jun 01, 2025
From: 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM
Experience a dynamic dance performance featuring multicultural choreography rooted in African diaspora traditions, set within a botanical garden. The Peter London Global Dance Company will present a program that combines contemporary jazz fusion, Caribbean carnival energy, spiritual revival movements and West African mythology in an outdoor celebration spanning various continents and cultures.
Garden Delights will take place on Sunday, June 1 on the Great Lawn at Miami Beach Botanical Garden. The 90-minute program includes choreographic works drawing from diverse cultural traditions. Among these are Justin Rapaport's contemporary jazz piece "Frosties" and several works by Peter London. London's choreography explores Caribbean carnival festivals in "Kaiso Bachanal," Black spiritual revival rituals in "Eyes & Hearts to Heaven" and West African Yoruba mythology depicting the story of King Shango and his queens Oba and Oya.
The performance will also feature London's interpretation of "Carmen," which brings Spanish duende and passion to the botanical setting. Additionally, the audience favorite "Roses for Women" featuring principal dancer Aaron Lopez will be presented.
Attendees are welcome to bring mats, blankets and umbrellas for comfort, as well as non-alcoholic beverages and snacks. This outdoor performance is recommended for ages 12 and over.
