Join Books & Books and the Cuban Heritage Collection for an in-person author talk with award-winning author, Lisandro Pérez on Saturday, October 14 for the launch of his new book The House on G Street: A Cuban Family Saga, a compelling blend of memoir and in-depth historical research that tells the story of Cuba through the eyes of the author's family.
Lisandro Pérez is professor of Latin American and Latino Studies at John Jay College, City University of New York. For twenty-five years he was on the faculty at Florida International University, where he founded and directed the Cuban Research Institute. His previous book, Sugar, Cigars, and Revolution: The Making of Cuban New York (NYU Press, 2018), won the Herbert H. Lehman Prize for Distinguished Scholarship in New York history, awarded by the New York Academy of History. Pérez was awarded the 2023 Prize for Outstanding Scholarly Contributions to Cuban Studies by the Latin American Studies Association.
