Intro to Textiles Art: Macrame
This event has passed.
Join artist Liene Bosque on Saturday, October 28, for a 3-hour workshop to learn the basics of Macramé techniques such as knots, hitches, and plaiting. With these techniques, participants will be able to create utilitarian designs or abstract artworks. Liene will also demonstrate how to use the cord tying technique to construct a bottle holder to take home.
Intro to Textiles Art: Macrame is part of a series of workshops that explore a wide range of textile processes, tools, and materials from the perspective of contemporary Fibers and Material Studies. Each hands-on workshop delves into a different technique, such as Weaving, Needlepoint (Bargello), Macrame, and Block Print on Fabric, providing participants the opportunity to learn about specific qualities and behaviors of a variety of materials. Emphasis is placed on material exploration as well as developing an awareness of the conceptual framework. The class structure includes studio practice alongside lectures where participants will study the works of contemporary artists and observe the historical use of fibers in relation to the projects created during the workshop.
