Explore the connection between visual art and language at MOCA Makers: Summer Poetry and Art Series, taking place on select Saturdays at the Museum of Contemporary Art in North Miami. This engaging 3-part workshop series, led by Haitian and Latine poet Lysz Flo, celebrates the art of Manuel Mathieu through interactive activities and poetry. Haitian Creole speakers are welcomed, and the event is suitable for families.
Series schedule:
- Week 1: June 8 - With a theme of The Emotional Textures of Memory, participants will create a collage memory box, followed by a poetry workshop that explores how we capture and express memories through words.
- Week 2: July 13 - Participants will create self-portraits using anything but a paintbrush, followed by a poetry workshop that explores the theme of Self-Portrait of Possibilities.
- Week 3: August 10 - Participants will work on a collaborative collage, followed by a poetry workshop that explores the theme of Inspired Poetry.
