Step into a multisensory celebration of Miami's vibrant cultural landscape, where art, literature, film and music converge in a single immersive experience. Open House Miami: Spring Equinox takes place on Friday, February 28 at the historic Koubek Center, bringing together the diverse cultural institutions that have made Miami Dade College a cornerstone of South Florida's artistic community.
This free community event is part of Open House Miami, a citywide celebration which captures the community, design and experiences that define Miami. The Spring Equinox gathering showcases the dynamic programs of Miami Film Festival, Museum of Art and Design (MOAD), Miami Book Fair, Koubek Center and Live Arts Miami in a festive atmosphere that highlights the unique spirit of the city. For more than five decades, these institutions have collectively enriched Miami's cultural fabric, and this evening offers an ideal opportunity to experience their offerings in one location.
Visitors can explore a variety of engaging activities throughout the evening. The Miami Film Festival presents a continuous loop of captivating independent short films, while the Miami Book Fair invites guests to relax in a Reading Garden under the stars, complete with Paddington Bear appearances and complimentary books. MOAD offers a hands-on felt collage workshop led by interdisciplinary artist Kristina Reinis, enabling participants to reimagine interior spaces through creative design.
Those interested in local history can join walking tours led by MOAD's Sierra Manno and Koubek Center Director Melissa Messulam, exploring the historic Koubek Mansion's architecture and evolution. The Koubek Center's En Residencia Studios provide a behind-the-scenes glimpse of artists developing new works across various disciplines, while Live Arts Miami presents an interactive drumming workshop with Alexa Fernandez from the South Florida Center for Percussive Arts.
Complimentary refreshments, including craft beer from The Tank Brewery, rum seltzers from Casalú and water from Topo Chico and Smartwater, will be available throughout the event. Free valet parking is offered on a first-come, first-served basis.
