Resisting Censorship: The Children's & Young Adult Book Banning Crisis
This event has passed.
Join PEN Miami/South Florida and Books & Books on Wednesday, October 4 for a vital conversation with New York Times bestselling author Brad Meltzer discussing the movement to ban books by and about the LGBTQ+ community, particularly books aimed at younger audiences. The talk will also cover how to resist the censorship taking over schools and libraries.
LGBTQ book bans across the United States have soared. Books have been disappearing from library shelves, are constantly challenged, and are decreed off-limits by school boards, legislators, and prison authorities. According to PEN’s report "Banned in the USA," 26% of unique titles banned within a 6-month period have LGBTQ+ characters or themes.
