Sunshine Jazz Organization: Eddy Balzola and Oriente!
This event has passed.
Enjoy an evening of soulful bluesy jazz and afro-cuban rhythms on Friday, September 1 when Cuban-born guitarist, composer and arranger Eddy Balzola and his band ORIENTE take to the Sandrell Rivers Theater stage as part of the Sunshine Jazz Organization's Monthly Concert Series. A favorite of The Sunshine Jazz Organization, Eddy befriended Chief Rivers and was inspired by her life stories. He composed and recorded a tribute song titled "Overtown Redemption, Dear Sandrell", found on his album entitled "ORIENTE Soul en Clave".
Founded by Balzola, ORIENTE debuted in New Orleans at Snug Harbor Jazz Club in the mid '90s. The group's sound is a melodic blend of natural rhythms and funky world fusion seasoned with cool, bluesy jazz and soul. Balzola creates fresh interpretations of classic jazz and colorful original tunes, leaving plenty of room to improvise.
