The Big Read: The Roots of Freedom
Nov 01, 2025
Starting: 5:00 PM
Genealogy, memory and national identity intertwine in a special program that invites audiences to reflect on the connections between personal stories and the broader American experience.
Hosted at the historic Freedom Tower, celebrating its 100th anniversary as the nation approaches its 250th, the Roots of Freedom: Tracing the Past, Shaping the Future program encourages visitors to explore the landmark’s exhibitions, which highlight its architectural history, oral narratives and documentary films. The evening culminates in a panel discussion with genealogists who share how researching family histories has deepened their understanding of heritage, community and belonging.
Moderated by Amy Galpin, executive director of the Museum of Art and Design and chief curator of the Freedom Tower, the conversation offers insights and resources for anyone interested in tracing their own lineage. The event takes place Saturday, November 1 at the Freedom Tower’s Knight Skylight Gallery, presented by Miami Book Fair in partnership with the Museum of Art and Design and the Genealogical Society of Greater Miami.
