From: 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM
The University of Miami’s Cuban Heritage Collection hosts Unpacking Quiroga’s Files, a daylong colloquium honoring the intellectual legacy of José Quiroga and the recent donation of his papers to the university archives.
Taking place Friday, November 7 at the Roberto C. Goizueta Pavilion inside the Otto G. Richter Library, the event gathers leading scholars from across the Americas to reflect on Quiroga’s influence in Cuban and Latin American studies. Discussions will examine his work through themes of Caribbeanness, Afro-Cuban diasporic identity, queer kinship and literature as a space for discourse.
Featured presenters include Jossianna Arroyo-Martínez (University of Texas at Austin), Daniel Balderston (University of Pittsburgh), Licia Fiol-Matta (New York University), Norge Espinosa (Teatro El Público), and others whose work intersects with Quiroga’s enduring impact.
Organized by the Cuban Heritage Collection, the Marta S. Weeks Chair in Latin American Studies, the Emilio Bacardí Moreau Chair for Cuban and Cuban-American Studies, and the Institute for Advanced Study of the Americas, this collaborative colloquium celebrates a body of work that continues to inspire dialogue and research across disciplines.
