April and May are Miami Attraction & Museum Months, so plan to spend a day with your mom at one of Miami’s many wonderful museums. If it’s contemporary and modern art you seek, head to Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) or The Bass. Learn about Miami history at Vizcaya Museum and Gardens, the Renaissance-inspired estate of the late James Deering, or at HistoryMiami Museum, a Smithsonian Affiliate committed to gathering, organizing, preserving and celebrating Miami's history as the unique crossroads of the Americas. Finally, don’t miss the Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science. It has both a state-of-the-art planetarium and the 500,000-gallon Gulf Stream Aquarium.

Mommy And Me Macramé: Plant Hangers

If your mom loves to be creative, take her to Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden for a special macramé class. Led by Rey Alvarez of Macramé del Rey, this beginner-level class will teach guests how to use the art form to make beautiful plant hangers, while also explaining the history of macramé and guiding students through to complete their creation. This class will run from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Materials will be provided, and no macramé experience is necessary.

The 5th annual GroundUp Music Festival is coming back to the Miami Beach Bandshell this May. Hosted by three-time Grammy Award winning artist Snarky Puppy, who will perform all three nights, the festival will include concerts by popular jazz musicians and groups, artist talks and masterclasses, food from top local chefs and idyllic Miami Beach views. Music lovers will be excited to see performances by Emily King, Moonchild, Cory Henry and more than a dozen other acts, plus an improvised performance by SpaceJam with Kimbra and Friends.

Miami City Ballet: Prodigal Son At The Adrienne Arsht Center

The Miami City Ballet will put on three performances of “Prodigal Son” over Mother’s Day weekend. With music by Sergei Prokofiev and choreography by George Balanchine, this ballet tells the dynamic Biblical story of a young man who leaves home against his father’s wishes in order to live his own life. Performances will take place at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and at 2 p.m. on Sunday.

Celebrate Mother’s Day by treating your favorite mother to a festive evening of Spanish food and dancing at Bellmónt Spanish Restaurant. Taking place outdoors in beautiful Coral Gables, “Pasion Flamenca Under the Stars, Mother’s Day Edition” is an unforgettable soiree with a prix-fixe dinner menu and performances by some of Miami’s best flamenco artists. The show starts at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday and at 8 p.m. on Sunday. Dinner reservations are recommended and can be made for any time between 6 and 10 p.m. Outdoor performances are weather-permitting.

This year, take mom to enjoy the historic bayfront setting at Deering Estate. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., guests are invited to bring their own picnic and enjoy this idyllic property overlooking Biscayne Bay. Before or after your picnic, hop on a relaxing cruise on the Pelican Skipper (a 45-foot Corinthian catamaran that departs from the estate) and enjoy a complimentary glass of Champagne. Cruises set sail at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. and last two hours; tickets must be purchased online in advance.
