Your Guide to Celebrating Mom in Miami

Mother’s Day is quickly approaching – May 9, 2021 – so mark your calendars and plan to give your mom a special day she’ll treasure. In Greater Miami, there are plenty of ways to celebrate Mother’s Day, from a waterfront picnic and cruise on Biscayne Bay to brunch at one of the destination’s best restaurants or a luxurious spa day. For a surprise treat at home, take a cooking class designed just for the occasion and learn how to whip up a Mother’s Day breakfast she’s sure to love. Read on for our guide to Mother’s Day 2021 in Greater Miami.

Picnic and Biscayne Bay Cruise

This year, take the lady of the hour to enjoy the beautiful, historic setting at the bayfront Deering Estate. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., guests are invited to bring their own picnic and indulge in a Mother’s Day brunch overlooking Biscayne Bay. Before or after your meal, take a relaxing cruise on the Pelican Skipper, a 45-foot power catamaran that departs from the estate. A complimentary glass of champagne is served to each guest as they disembark. Cruises last two hours, setting sail at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., and tickets must be purchased online in advance. Gift bags with mimosas, coffee, tea, fresh-baked pastries, pancake mix, maple syrup, fruit, chocolate, handmade soap and more can be purchased online through the Deering Estate Foundation. The gift bags are available for pickup between noon and 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 8.

Make it a Museum Day

April and May are Miami Attraction & Museum Months, so plan to spend a day with mom at one of Greater Miami’s many wonderful museums. If it’s contemporary and modern art you seek, head to the Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) in Downtown Miami or The Bass in Miami Beach. Learn about Miami history at Vizcaya Museum and Gardens, the Renaissance-inspired estate of the late James Deering, or HistoryMiami Museum, a Smithsonian Affiliate committed to gathering, organizing, preserving and celebrating Miami's history as the unique crossroads of the Americas. Finally, don’t miss the Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science. It has both a state-of-the-art planetarium and the 500,000-gallon Gulf Stream Aquarium.

Spa Day

Is there anything more luxurious for mom than a Mother’s Day full of pampering? Treat her to any one of Greater Miami’s fabulous spas and give her a day fit for a queen. Pick a spa with fabulous amenities – like water journeys, yoga classes and pool, gym and beach access – and let her make a day of it. Some favorites include Lapis Spa at the Fontainebleau Miami Beach, The Ritz-Carlton Spa, South Beach and Tierra Santa Healing House at Faena Miami Beach.

Cooking Class: Mother's Day Breakfast

On the Saturday prior to Mother’s Day, head to Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden and learn how to make the perfect Mother’s Day breakfast. From 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., budding chefs of all skill levels will be taught how to make customizable breakfast muffins, an authentic Italian frittata that can be made either healthy or decadent, and a golden turmeric latte to pair with it all. No cooking experience is required to make these quick, easy recipes – and you’re sure to have a fun time with Mom.
