Director of People and Culture - Miami Beach Convention Center

The Director of People & Culture is a strategic, hands-on leadership role responsible for aligning people strategies with OVG policies, the City of Miami Beach contract, and MBCC’s business objectives. Serving as a trusted advisor and employee advocate, this position oversees talent acquisition, employee engagement, compliance, benefits, labor relations, training, and performance management while driving a positive, inclusive workplace culture.
Strategic Impact
This role partners closely with venue and corporate leadership to anticipate workforce needs, guide organizational change, and ensure compliance with contractual and regulatory requirements. By aligning People & Culture initiatives with organizational goals, the Director plays a critical role in MBCC’s long-term success.
Key Responsibilities
People & Culture, Engagement & Organizational Development
- Strengthen employee engagement, morale, and productivity across all departments
- Serve as a trusted HR advisor to MBCC leadership and managers
- Lead DEIB initiatives aligned with OVG values and Miami’s diverse workforce
- Oversee the full employee lifecycle from onboarding to offboarding
- Support workforce planning, succession planning, and organizational change
- Enhance employer branding through community engagement and industry networking
Policies, Compliance & Employee Relations
- Ensure compliance with labor laws, union agreements, and contractual obligations
- Develop, update, communicate, and enforce HR policies and procedures
- Handle employee relations matters, investigations, and workers’ compensation cases
- Maintain confidential employee records and manage benefits-related inquiries
- Ensure I-9 and E-Verify compliance
Training, Learning & Development
- Design and implement leadership, service excellence, and compliance training programs
- Deliver new employee orientation and ongoing development initiatives
- Partner with department leaders to address skill gaps and performance needs
- Evaluate training effectiveness and maintain accurate training records
OVG Alignment & Corporate Partnership
- Act as the primary liaison between MBCC and OVG Corporate HR teams
- Collaborate on legal matters, EEOC complaints, benefits, and compensation programs
- Support payroll processing and compensation administration
Talent Acquisition & Union Relations
- Oversee recruitment strategies to attract and retain top hospitality talent
- Serve as liaison for union relations, negotiations, and grievance processes
Leadership & Supervision
- Lead and develop the People & Culture team
- Coach MBCC leaders on employee relations and performance management
- Contribute to budget planning and monitor departmental expenditures
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred
- 8–10 years of senior-level HR experience handling complex employee relations
- Bilingual in English and Spanish (required)
- Union environment experience strongly preferred
- Hospitality, venue, or hotel industry experience preferred
- SHRM-CP or PHR certification preferred

Work Environment & Schedule
This is an in-person role based at the Miami Beach Convention Center. The schedule is primarily Monday–Friday, with flexibility required to support events, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
