Public Safety Manager - Miami Beach Convention Center

As the Public Safety Manager, you will be responsible for protecting the health, safety, and security of the Miami Beach Convention Center, its Campus, and all guests, staff, and partners. Reporting to the Director of Public Safety & Transportation, this leadership role oversees Public Safety Supervisors, Officers, third-party security vendors, and event-related security operations while ensuring compliance, preparedness, and operational excellence.
This position requires a highly visible, ethical, and collaborative leader who models professionalism, integrity, and accountability while fostering trust across internal teams and external partners.

Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Operations
- Directly manage full- and part-time Public Safety Supervisors and oversee Public Safety Officers and contracted security
- Conduct daily shift briefings and oversee Command Center and CCTV operations
- Ensure proper staffing levels for events, daily operations, and emergencies
- Maintain security standards across MBCC, Campus, Collins Canal Park, Rum Room, and The Venue
- Account for all security equipment, vehicles, and supplies
Safety, Security & Emergency Management
- Inspect and verify life-safety systems including fire alarms, suppression systems, radios, and emergency networks
- Develop and maintain SOPs, policies, threat assessments, and emergency preparedness plans
- Coordinate emergency drills and training with Miami Beach Fire, Police, and first responders
- Respond to incidents involving injuries, theft, workplace violence, protests, medical events, and weather emergencies
- Lead after-action reviews and ensure corrective actions are implemented
Event & Stakeholder Coordination
- Coordinate event security with show management, exhibitors, contractors, and vendors
- Participate in pre-con meetings, site visits, campus walk-throughs, and production planning sessions
- Collaborate closely with Transportation, Event Services, and external security partners
People Management & Development
- Recruit, interview, train, mentor, and evaluate Public Safety team members
- Manage scheduling, timekeeping, payroll approvals, and performance assessments
- Partner with Human Resources on employee engagement, discipline, and compliance matters
Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, NFPA codes, Florida Statutes, city ordinances, and MBCC standards
- Oversee access control systems, badge permissions, and surveillance documentation
- Support risk mitigation strategies including crowd management and contractor oversight
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required; some college preferred
- 3–5 years of hands-on security experience
- Minimum 3 years of supervisory experience in security
- Strong leadership, communication, problem-solving, and customer service skills
Technology & Systems
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Experience with CCTV, access control, incident reporting systems, and fire/life safety platforms
- Familiarity with cloud-based collaboration tools (Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive)
Licenses & Certifications
- Valid Florida Class D Security License (Required)
- Valid Driver’s License (Required)
- OSHA 10-Hour General Industry Certification (Preferred)
- CPR, AED, and First Aid Certification (Preferred)
Physical & Work Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
- Occasional lifting up to 50 pounds
- Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather and noise conditions
- Flexible schedule including nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call availability
